Default Custom Cold Air Intake for 4.7L V8

So after seeing all you guys with your custom homemade cold air intakes for your 5.2s and 5.9s, I decided I would try to make one for my 4.7 (cause I couldn't find any on here.)

So, after several trips to Lowes and Autozone, I finally came out with a finished product that looks something like this,

and here's a good side shot,

Although I didn't go straight into the throttle body with the tubing, there is still a HUGE difference in power in the mid to upper RPM ranges. Also, my engine sounds sooo daaaamn good now.
as far as fuel economy is concerned, I have no idea, cause I haven't been able to keep my foot off the gas!!

basically, the products I used were:
1 - 3in. Fernco coupler (easily found in the plumbing section of a hardware store)
1 - 45 degree 3in. PVC pipe
1 - can of Rustoleum Plastic paint (black)
1 - 5.5 in K&N filter
1 - breather filter (for the line that runs to the factory airbox)

The grand total for this project ran in the neighborhood of $50-$60, mostly due to the high cost of the filter (but as my one buddy put it, "buying a brand other than K&N for a filter is like buying a pair of sketchers over nikes. Sure they get the job done, but its just not the same!")

I'm still working out something for a type of plate to put between the filter and the rest of the engine bay to try and block some of the heat coming from the engine. I also took off the rubber piece on the front of the engine bay by the passenger headlight and radiator to try and get more air on that side and try to keep things cooler.

I also may spray paint that square black piece going into the throttle body tomorrow to make it look a bit nicer with this new cold air intake!

anyway, hope this helps anyone looking for ideas for their 4.7L.

Thanks Indy!

Hydra, I saw that thread, along with all the other ones you have listed in your longevity thread (which really helped me with my D, Thanks man!!)
But on my 4.7L, there is NO room for anything up by the front of the car. as Indy said in that thread you posted above, the transmission controller is located there, and also there are A/C tubes and some sort of solenoid(?) in the way.

as you can see, its ridiculously cramped in there... its really annoying.

I'm still trying to rig something up so I can get a ram air of sorts even with all that crap in my way (and with my custom cai). I'll make sure to post pictures/details when I figure it out/get it done! (also if you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know! any help is greatly appreciated!)

Thunder, your setup on your CAI for your 4.7 is going over the side exactly like the K&N setup does for the 4.7s too. Just leave it there and consider an airbox or something like theirs. That's all you are missing.

Do you have fog lights?

Yeah I got fog lights (although one is dead...oops). And yeah, I considered doing an airbox, but I was trying to figure out how to make some sort of ram air to the filter like how Hydra did it on his... sooo like an airbox with that tube? I dunno... I'm still brainstorming.
I'll have my dad take a look at it, He's an engineer... he could prolly think of something good for it. haha

What some members did is cut a hole 1/2 way with a small hole on top and bottom. Install the pipe in the middle to allow that line dead center to go through the middle of the piping then fix the cut in the side. Look at this: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/955007-post1.html You might need to re-locate the TCM like Dan did here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1739297-post14.html

FAIL

the opening shown in both of the links in hyrda's post show COLD AIR intakes (cold by comparison to the engine bay) which is exactly what you want

Yea, all four of his posts have been useless. Someone use their ban-hammer.
