2003 dodge durango engine light problem
do a really close check of all your hoses.. the two comming from the gas filler to the tank.. then check the two hoses going to the canister near the tank.. check all vacuum hoses in the engine bay and also pay close attention to all wire harnesses.. did this happen all the sudden or after a weekend of tinkering??
I have seen this code occur on other vehicles. usually the hoses on the EVAP system between the intake and the solenoid (on the fender near the battery) have dry-rotted and begun to crack allowing leaks in the system.
same problem ( vacuum evap purge system code ) have replaced all except the computer. no one will send me a computer, they want me to take mine out and send it to them so they can flash it to my vin number. need my truck, it's below freezing in south korea and i don't like to walk when it's this cold!! is there any way around this or am i going to have to wait till spring to send my computer to the states? can someone with some integrety point me in the right direction!!!!!1i'm desperate!!!!!!!
I first got this code a couple of years ago after I got gas. Thought it was gas cap related and got a new one at the auto parts store and I cleared the code but when I got gas a couple of months later the P0440 code came back again. Replaced with another auto parts one and code didn't go away. It seems as though you all are indicating a factory cap may be the ticket. What's different about the dealer ones? If that's not it then I guess I need to start checking hoses.
Mine threw the P0442 code recently..the culprit was the vacuum line going from the Evap canister under the driver's side of the truck..over to the plastic line that starts on the gas tank..simply cut off the bad end, and pushed it back on and light has been off every sense...will probably go ahead and replace the line though soon anyway...
