Default ABS doesn't work but no ABS light on

So the wife was driving the Durango in the snow the other night and slid into the back of a van causing the front bumper cover to break. She said the ABS never kicked in. I took it out today in the snow and got it up to about 30 and hit the brakes and it just slid. It jerks for a spilt second but then the wheels lock up and it slides, the pedal doesn't pulse a bit. I tried this over and over about a half dozen times with the same result. There is no ABS light or any other malfunction light on either. I have no idea what it could be. Any one else heard of these before?

check the ABS fuse, might be blown, thats where i would start, my next question is, does your truck have 4wheel ABS, or is it Rear wheel only? if you only have rear wheel then the front will lock up, and btw rear wheel abs is pretty much useless unless your towing IMO

yea mine has abs in the rear with drum brakes. idk why they thought of that when most of the braking and weight goes to the front brakes.

Hmmm....it's an 01' R/T and i don't know if it does or not. We have only had it two months and i'm new to the Durango's. I would think it would have it since it's an R/T and it's loaded with everything else.

you should be able to look that info up with your vin number at the dodge website, or by calling any dodge dealer and they can look it up for you

Or you can look at you hub up front. If you have an ABS wire going to it then you have 4 wheel ABS otherwise only rear wheel ABS.

if it is rear only there is a good chance you will not feel the pedal pulsing as rwabs is not nearly as effective as front wheel, and you will still get the front wheel lock up/skidding problems you noticed here
