soooooo your claiming its never there???????
i think you meant that the other way around, its always there WHEN drunk, bc it seems to be there quite frequently (too frequently for it to be a sober occurrence)
My D is a 1999 SLT Plus with the 5.9L (Patriot Blue) & it also had computer problems along with many others. I have replaced Tranfer case, bj(3) times -- upper & lower, shocks, computers (4), tires (3), etc. The dark colored Ds with the 5.9L engines do not have enough air flow in the engine compartment to cool the PCM, and I also noticed that when the sun loads up and conducts heat directly to the inner fender bracket for the PCM, it melts the contacts for the PCM and they go out every 40K miles or so. I simply after replacing my PCM last time bought (3) larger PCM bolts, plus (6) nylon washers from my local hardware store and separated the heat source from the bracket. In addition, I hooked up a computer high speed fan and ducted some down spout hose from the front of the grill to the PCM to cool it while sitting in that heat in the summer. Everything works good now. I did notice Dodge changed the connection points on future PCMs due to heat.
gargle,
Glad to hear you got it all taken care of. There are posts on the internet where entire front tires have broken off while driving. Some of the same posts and crying at Dodge as at fault when in reality the recall was/is very common knowledge. It is up to folks to do exactly what you did... just get it done. I agree 100% and the safety of the family being the most important thing!
What year is your D?

I recently replaced my shocks in my durango, and I am now experiencing a clunking noise in the front suspension. A buddy of mine thinks it is the ball joints, does that seem reasonable, or should I be looking at something else? I have a 2001 Dodge Durange R/T 5.9L. I had the recall done on the ball joints in 2004, and I only have 79k miles on the Durango. The clunking is coming from the drivers side, and that shock was the worst one.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
