ball joints are a possibility,(tho unlikely with that low miles on it) how many miles since you had the recall done???

are the bump stops still there? are you hitting them when you go over bumps??,

jack the truck up and pull on the wheel at 12/6 and 3/9, if 12/6 move i believe it is balljoints bad and 3/9 should be tie rods or hub bearings (they make a sound much like mud tires on the road when they go)

also check to make sure the shock bolts have not come out at all and that they are torqued down properly

Default Shock is loose; I bet.

Sounds like a loose shock. Did you torque them down with the proper torque setting? Your ball joints could be bad, but do what the guy said on moving the wheel at 12:6 and 3:9 positions to fee movement. Tire should not move if ***** are good.

I had the recall done on the ball joints in 2004, and I only have 79k miles on the Durango. The clunking is coming from the drivers side, and that shock was the worst one.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I guess I should of added that, I had already checked the shocks to make sure they weren't coming lose. That was my first fear. I had torqued the bolts to the specifications when I installed them, then checked them a couple days after I did the replacement, and then again the other night to make sure they weren't causing the noise. I will do the wheel check though, and check the shock bolts again.

thank you.

I wasn't doubting you, just wondering if that was for both front and rear. Thanks for specs. His is a 2003, would it be the same probably? He said he found an e-how site that listed 30 on top, 100 on the bottom for the front, and 75 for both of the rear. He just wanted to make sure that was accurate.

I checked my wheel, with it off the ground, and had no movement side to side or up and down (meaning putting opposing forces on each side with no movement, and opposing forces top and bottom with no movement). I took the wheel off, inspected the ball joints and couldn't see anything wrong with them. Yanked on them to see if there was any movement and still didn't feel any. Inspected the shock bolts again, everything seemed fine there. So I put the wheel back on, and took it for a drive to try and identify the noise better, and it was gone. Not sure what was causing the noise, the only thing I put a wrench to was the lug nuts (and I had checked them before to make sure they weren't loose).
