Tow hitch
1st time Durango owner. I have 98 Durango and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the rating of the factory hitch is. Class 1, 2, or 3. I do alot of towing with a 20 foot car trailer and want to make sure the hitch will hold up.
well, how much does the trailer weigh? the max tow rating of ANY 1st gen Durango is like 7200lbs and thats w/ the big 5.9l v8 and 3.92 gears in the rear, so i wouldnt go above that unless you have done work to the driveline/brake systems to make sure it can handle the extra load.
but i think it is a III or a IV 500 or 750lb tongue rating i believe,

Like said here, make sure your brakes are up to it. Get a nice proportional brake controller and make sure your trailer brakes are working too. 20' trailer and car on top is alot of weight for the Durango.
I will disagree.
Class IV hitch (up to 7,500 pounds) would be required because the 5.9L 4X4 392 gearing package is rated at 7,300 lbs and the HD tow package (OEM) would have to be rated to at least the same. I'm sure that it is a Class IV that's installed if you meet this criteria. The normal hitch that's installed on a SUV is Class III but in this?????
We share the same motor and even the same rating that the 5.9L or close to it. I think the Ram is 7,600 and the D is 7,300 because of the chassis.

if you got money go with a set of viper brand brakes, and change the rear to viper discs also
, other wise cross-drilled slotted rotors w/ ceramic pads is the cheapest route to a performance increase
