First of all, welcome aboard. Sounds like you got quite a platter. Lets try one at a time.

1. Try Vehicle speed Sensor, I am not sure where they are located on 99 models but I wold guess transmission housing somewhere. Don't just remove and replace, but speed sensor sounds like a good starting point. Are you using non standard tires?

2. Try to get code read.

3. I wouldnt recommend that, if you have 4 wheel ABS then it is wise to replace with the 4WD bearing The ABS and Brake light is indicative of a underlying problem and internal problem with the system. The ABS light by itself is a problem but the brakes will work you just wont have the anti lock feature. The BRAKE light is a problem but start simple and go from there.

a. I would recommend CHANGING front pads and rotors. INSPECTING Rear brakes
BLEEDING the system. Also get the codes read for the ABS it is most likely a sensor but which one.

4. Not sure, I deferr to some more knowledgable 4x4 gurus on that one. I have a 2003 with the electronic indicator.

5. If you have owners manual read that. 4LOW and part time sound like two different sub systems.

Again welcome aboard!, you will get some pretty helpful info from the members just be patient.

Hello, I'm new myself but welcome.

Speedo, couple different things could cause this, ctm needs reflash for proper tire size, bad speed sensor, bad speedo head, & everything in between.

If this is out of the blue and wasnt preceded by any repairs I would bet speed sensor but since you just got it with no reliable way of knowing what has or has not been done, suspect everything.

start by having the system run for codes, if all checks run to the dealer & have them check the speedo calibration.

ABS light will remain till you replace the hub with a proper one & recheck the system for codes to find if anything else need be adressed, basic code reader will not do it. you can however reinstall the correct hub, disconect the batt, turn the ignition to run & push in on the brakes for at least twenty seconds. this will clear the codes & if your lucky combined with whatever it takes to correct your speedo & the proper hub will do it.

4 wheel low is not a gear you would drive around in all the time, thus it is a part time setting, normal.

limited slip is in the rear, just stay out of four wheel drive on any hard surface to reduce gear stress & you'll be ok till you can rectify the situation.

I had a similar problem with my 99. For me it was the ABS/Speed sensor located on the top of the rear axle. Abs and Brake light went off after I installed the new sensor and the speedo then worked fine.

1. rear wheel speed sensor controls this under 25 or so, after that its the speed sensor on the output shaft of the transmission, on the drivers side btw, how do you know that it is reading half of your actual speed? and do you have the stock tire size on it? or does it have bigger tires?

2. one of the speed sensors, usually the one on the top of the rear differential, but the one on the output shaft of the transmission can cause it too, i would replace them in pairs since when one goes the other usually isnt far behind it.

3. NO if you have 4 wheel ABS you NEED the abs hubs in the front yes they are more expensive but without them you have problems

4. technically he is correct, but with a 4x4 you are better off replacing all 4 tires at once, do not run it like that for very long, (if you got a flat or something like that it would be fine till you got it fixed, but NOT long term)

5. that is fine, as long as you have a part time 4x4 (you have a 2wd option) you will get this light when you are in 4wd

Just to be cynical but did you buy the car with the speedometer issue? I'm not 100% sure but some buddies up in Philly when they got cars would screw up the speed sensor so the car wasn't able to add miles so drive for a while fix it and flip the car with tons more miles then the odometer read. (Again not sure if this still works but it was pretty crafty at the time)

1. i had my friend dive next to me and we got up to 60 and it said 30 and than after we got down to 20 it said 10
. what is the stock tire size?

2. i will look in to that this weekend if i get time

3. do you know of any good sites to get a set of hubs or is there a life kit with new hubs and and ball joints and whats a good performance chip

4. i will get new tires after i get some more money

5. okay when it is in 4H or 4L it says part time (what is part time im new to 4x4 I'm a car guy new to the 4X4 thing) how do i know if i have a part time 4x4?

the old transfer case said 2H-4H-N-4L i think and the new transfer case is 4L-N-2H-4H if that helps

When i got the durango the trans was bad so i paid some one to put a used one in

Lift kits come with none of what you mentioned. they only come with brackets, spacers, springs & the like.

Chips (re-programers in this case) run a few hundred but I would caution against doing any "hop up's" till you have it running right. fix whats broken, catch up on maint then worry about improvements.

The truck is designed to run as a two wheel drive w/engagement of all 4 possible, the four low is just that, a much lower gear set. gives you more of a torque advantage at low speeds.
so you are driving a part time four wheel drive. some older 4x4's do not have the option of coming out of four wheel drive.
All wheel drive is a different beastie alltogether, in a truck format the transfer case locks the front & rear together as well as a low option(not on all makes)

Honestly you dont even need the light on the dash, in short order you'll bve able to tell in a second when the 4wheel in engaged.

1. Replace the Speed Sensor on the top of the rear differential.

2. ABS and brake light are 2 separate systems.

3. You have a 1999 and there is no front wheel ABS sensor on those models but according to the manual it is there. So do you have 4 wheel ABS????

4. On the front there is no Limited Slip Differential! That is a rear differential only. The front is a 194 FAI Open Gearing axle. You should get the same worn tires not 1 new and old, as well as different tread patterns. Don't liston to your friends.

5. It's fine.
