Dunno about the transfer case but there are two (2) filters in the tranny you HAVE to replace whenever you you take the pan off. Make sure to take all the o-rings off. Pay attention to the holes where the new filters are inserted, make sure the old o-rings are taken out. If you don't, you will have problems with the tranny. HTH.

afaik there are no filters in the t-case, and yes use atf+4 in the t-case as well as the transmission (same fluid, might be smart to buy it by the gallon if you are doing both??)
and dan is correct 2 filters in the trans, and make sure to get all of the old gaskets/o-rings off before installing the new filters

David, can you expand on this a little bit? I know a little bit about cars but nothing about trannys. I am having the exact same problem as you described. Shifts from 1st to 2nd fine no matter what the weather is. If it's cold out, or the truck is just cold, it takes usually 10-15 minutes of driving before it starts to shift into 3rd. When it's not working, it will shift into 2nd, then when it's time to shift into 3rd, it just "let's go". I can let the rpm's settle down and then gun it to get it to go back down to 2nd, but then it's wash, rinse, repeat until it's "warmed up". Any help is greatly appreciated.
