Follow up..... Had Durango stored as I bought a 98 2500 cummins.
Just recently tore into the Durango. Water pump, etc. Got it running and drained the tranny/transfer case with the intention of pulling. Found large chunks of metal on magnet in tranny, figure it is the anchor for second gear band. Decided against pulling now as I got very busy again.
Replaced pan and fluid in trans, went to refill transfer case and found I had not drained through right hole. Had assumed the drain plug was a large hex head bolt in the middle of transfer case. Truck won't move now. What is this other plug on transfer case? Is that why it won't move perhaps?

I was once told by an old fella that if your trans is acting weird and you kept driving it, then your better off rebuilding or replacing it. They almost never work right after you disturb the fluid and filter is what he said. Sounds like it's toast brother.

I appreciate the confirmation, brother, but I know it's toast. If you read my last post, you might have had something to offer. I am asking about the drain plug/plugs on the transfer case........

You should have a NV244 T-case in there but I can't think of a large hex bolt on the back? There is a drain hex plug on the back left side down low, and the fill plug is next to it just slightly higher one in the center. Both should be close to the ID tag.

With only 105K on it I think you have something else going on like you didn't take out the ring on the inside of the intake hole in the trans pan or you didn't install something correctly.

Cheers Hydra, as to the drain plug for the transfer case , correct nv244, the bolt is just in front of the forward output shaft and to the center of the case. I will crawl under again and take a pic.
Now the tranny, all that was done is pull the pan, replace and fill as I changed my mind about pulling it. One thing, when I tried to put in gear and move, nothing happened, small clicks heard when shifting from D to reverse. When I tried to put in park, the park pin started grinding. Had to shut off to get in park,,,,
Thanks for your time...

That sounds like a transfer case issue. Awaiting your photo.
