Default 2000 Durango outside temp. sensor.

Hello all. The new guy here. Recently changed my overhead console from the cheapo, lights only type to the one with the compass etc...
Got it hooked up and got the above to work along with the lights. I need a temp sensor, (connector there but no sensor), if someone has one for sale please let me know. I also have a silly question. My wiring harness to the lights was only that. So since I only care for the compass and temp, after I got the lights to work, I run wires for the compass, (switched power and ground) and two more that can go straight to the sensor instead of trying to figure out where the ones factory run, end up after the leave the missing sensor plug. Labelled them (+) and (-). Will that work if I cut the connector of the the factory wiring, plug the sensor to it and feed the 2 wires that I run from the console, (mentioned above), straight there?
Also does the sensor care as to which wire plugs where? (Meaning reversing the (+) and (-)? I would appreciate the come back.
Thanks,
Tony V.

Welcome new guy!

You can pick up a abundant air temp sensor at your local parts store.

I'm lost on your wiring questions?

Default 2000 Rango, outside temp sensor...

To Hydrashocker. Thanks for the reply. I guess I can look around and I know that thanks to our government offering $ for "clunkers", lots of poor cars met an untimely death, so I can look there as well...

I think hydra means ambient air temp sensor. Please forgive him, his drink was on well before his posting time.

lol gonna call him out on it huh dan?

and i would imagine that the sensor DOES care about polarity of the wires (+ or -) and if you have all the correct wires you should be able to run a straight run from the overhead to the sensor instead of following the factory harness all the way through where ever it goes

Me again. Sensor can be located. NP there and since I should be able to use my 2 wires run from my console, (+ and -), straight out to the sensor itself, does anyone know which side of the actual sensor pins is the positive and which is the negative? Or on the plug for that matter since I will have to cut the one off the existing wiring to use with my wires, or find another in the junk yard someplace.

Thanks again,
TV

Thank you kindly sir. That side of the plug, (in the console), I have. What I'm wondering is, about the 2 pins on the plug itself where the sensor plugs in. For instance looking at the pin side of the connector where the sensor will plug in, (not the side where the wires come out), which one will be the (+) and of course the other being (-)....Thank you much,
TV

You mean the sensor pin (harness) on the front of the truck next to the passenger side head light?
