Default Power Windows Regulator Question

Hey, I am new to the forums. I have a 2003 Durango and this is the first time I have had to dive in and do some real repairs to it. I'll describe my situation. The story is that I went somewhere and when I came back out to the car, the front driver side window was all the way down. I tried to roll it back up with the power windows button, and no dice. There was definitely power to the regulator because it was groaning, but there was no noticable movement of the window. When I got home (around 9 PM) I pulled the door panel off and took a look. Whenever I would hit the power windows button I would hear the groaning and the cables would move slightly (maybe an inch forward and backwards) but there would not be any movement of the glass. It seems to me like the motor is trying to pull the cables but it does not have enough power. I don't think the problem is electrical, and its definitely not any fuses. I believe that the problem may be I need a new regulator, but I am definitely open to any other ideas. I have searched the forums and narrowed down the problem a bit, but I was hoping for a little more clarity for my specific instance. I was also hoping there would be some guides with pictures for replacing the regulator. I bookmarked one guide, but the picture links were broken. Any replies would be greatly appreciated because this is my first attempt working on power windows. Thanks in advanced.

Also was curious if anyone had any experience in rigging something up to keep the window up until I can get the replacement parts. Thanks again.

Just this past week I had to do this on my other vehicle. You may need to take out the whole assembly to find the problem. In my case the cable started to shred and it bound up when trying to flex around a wheel. I was a little worried about the process, but it was very easy. Good luck.

I just installed a new regulator. Mine was stuck in the up position, ended up having to chop a cable with a hack saw to allow the window to come down. The hardest part is removing the door trim without wrecking something. Feel free to PM me if your having probs. I bought the new regulator for $69 with free shipping. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for answering. One more question. When you order the new regulator kit, do the kits come with the door clips? I am going to order the kit this week sometime and was hoping the kit would have everything I need to complete the mission.

I ordered mine through A1, free shipping and arrived in about 3 days. The regulator has everything you need, I used the stock bolts but you could use the bolts provided with the regulator. Pay attention to how the old one comes out, you need to have the cables in the front position. http://www.1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegul...RG00116/285689
