Default Fluid change

I’m looking to change the oil, transmission fluid (standard dextron?), transfer case oil and diff oils on my 2001 Durango 4.7l. Can anyone tell me the type and grades of oil to use and also the capacities? Does the diff need a additive? Any help would be great.

ok here ya go

oil, i believe it is 5w-30, but check your owners manual it will say in there 6 quarts

transmission fluid ATF +4 ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! do NOT use anything else, it will cause a whole mess of problems, and definitely do NOT use dextron that is gm fluid (i believe) a whole lot of quarts

t-case: same as transmission check your owners manual for capacity

diff oil you will have to check your manual i believe it is 75w 90 4 quarts per diff??? if you have a limited slip rear differential make sure to add the 5 oz of friction modifier

The transfer case capacity is about 2 quarts and the rear diff is about 2.5 quarts. If you just drop the transmission pan and change the filter it takes around 5 quarts to fill it back up.

10W-30 is the motor oil weight.
80W-90 for the rear and front differentials 75W-90 is you use Synthetic Fluids. The rear diff needs Friction Modifier if it is equiped with a LS rear end.
ATF+4 Transmission fluid ONLY
ATF+4 in the transfer case
DOT3 in the brake lines
The 1998-1999 power steering fuild is brown fuild only avalibe at the dealer. 2000-2003 is AFT+4 or Mopar PS flid.

Yeah but not just any ATF+4. Go with MOPAR ATF+4. Did mine not too long ago and it needed 6 quarts to fill.

No. You cannot use those weights of oil.

You are only formatted to use 5W-30 (In super cold environments) or 10W-30 in normal environment. Walmart sells them both for $22.50 for a 5 quart bottle.

One of the best places to buy it is Auto Zone because you can get a 7oz bottle for $4.99 and you should use the whole bottle. You can get it at Checkers, NAPA, or the Dealership but they sell it in 4oz bottles for a lot more money and you need 2 bottles.

The Diff is sealed with RTV (I like gold) or you can get a gasket but you don't need it and you still need the RTV so just use it.
