Talking CB and PA setup

Hey guys, now i know maybe some of you would like to install a CB and PA maybe not. but im here for a little help. the pictures are how i did the process.

okay well start out with the mounting location for the CB itself. just mount it anywhere i just put mine under the dash where the useless coin holder was.

Now for wiring, put the positive into your radio fuse and push the wire and fuse back in its spot so it turns off with the truck, put the ground behind the metal plate and skrew shown.

Okay time to setup your antenna just mount it anywhere you want where metal is, i chose the metal part of the bumper on the corner. make sure its on metal otherwise it wont ground and it wont transmit or recieve anything.

Now for the PA you have to wire a headphone cable to the PA and plug it into the back of the Cb where it says PA and your done just switch it over to pa and you can yell at people all you want

The CB antenna should be installed on metal and not plastic but the 1998 and 1999 models had a 2 piece bumper that the upper portion (where you mounted it) is metal and lower is plastic. However the newer models were 1 piece and all plastic.

Last but not least, remember to set your SWR's on you antenna so someone doesn't pull next to you with a powerful system and smoke your CB because you didn't set your SWR's.....Done that a few times....LMAO

Speaking of which, I need to set up my 49.5 watt suped up cobra on my truck for tailoring with the family.

yeah make sure to keep the SWR in line and dont get a tuneable antenna that will mess the SWR up and blow the CB right up. i got the Cobra 29ltd army edition. nothing special i want a nightwatch with NOAA cause its nice to check weather at night when i head home from work which is 45 mins from my house and its all highway.

You want a tunable antenna! THats how you set your SWR's and you must do it or your sistem will get roasted by people like me. I personally have roasted a few. Yes they smoke like an SOB and you look at the board and it's melted.

Sharps<-----Didn't have one in the D but I do have one and it's a bad ***.

+1
Antenna that can be tuned.
My setup consists of a low end RS CB with a 18" magnet mount and when it was wave tuned it outperforms most whip antennas. Now if i ever put it back in again
The SWR meter only needs to be used to adjust, so you dont keep it in line. Search around/ask friends, more than likely someone will have one if they ever used a cb and borrow it to save yourself $40+

Don't mean to bring up an old thread from the dead but, i resently did a CB install in my '98 D.... Pics to follow shortly.....

BTW... for the antenna i used the ram/dakota mount that uses the finder bolt to secure the mount...
