I really liked getting under that guys skin, too bad he never had any come backs for me. He should have just kept his mouth shut esp. since he owns a 5 speed manual in his Dakota. He was just a punk and Hydra and I burnt his butt really good.

I have been reading threads on the tranny all night and was planning on "purging" the tranny as soon as the auto parts store opens so I can get the filters, gaskets and fluids.
I drop pan, replace filters and clean the magnet. After replacing the pan and filling with 6 quarts of +4, I disconnect the line from the external cooler and start the D.
As it pumps out a quart, I pour one in the top. This happens for 12 quarts, which is what the torque converter holds as I understand it.
A question occurs to me:
Is the fluid coming out of the line that was to go to the cooler coming directly from the TC or is it being pumped through the tranny? If the second is the case, then wouldn't that only change 2/3 of the fluid? I am concerned that this D has 146K fluid in it.

You drop out 6-8 quarts just pulling the pan, then the rest is in the Torque converter and cooling system. Replace the filter, clean and adjust you transmission cause you have a 44RE with your 5.2L. seal it up and pour in 8 quarts of fluid. Take off the return line to the trans (top fitting is return) and place in a bucket and have someone hold it cause there is lots of pressure. Start the truck in Neutral and express the remainder (about 5 quarts out). It will pull the trans fluid from the pan (to answer your question).

Replace 4 quarts and check the level and add till full or close on cold mark on dip stick. Remember to check when full at operating temp after you have3 gone through all the gears and reverse and check level in Neutral again.

Trans adjustment is hiding on this site somewhere?
