Default Heat Issue, Fan, Cooling.

Okay here goes, I was checking out the Durango for an oil change when I noticed the Coolant was low, like not even at the low on the dipstick. So I added some coolant. I took off the Radiator cap too see if I could see any coolant and there was none, So I turned the car on to try to bleed some air out of the system.

As soon as I turned the car on the fan started spinning, which I don't think it should do with the fan clutch? I let the car Idle with the rad cap off for quite some time and nothing happened still, No heat and no fluid started overflowing or anything.

I a little confused to say the least, help please? Any more details please ask.

I think I figured it out, I added a more coolant so now it gets decent heat but since the cooling fan is ALWAYS spinning it doesn't get very good heat at idle.

the cooling fan is working correctly it is supposed to spin at all times when the engine is spinning, the clutch is there so that it does not spin at the same speed as the engine otherwise as the rpms on the engine went up you would lose ALOT of power to turning that fan

I'm thinkin I might need a heater core or there is blockage or something because I got most of the air out and it is still not getting that amazing of heat at idle.

you wont get amazing heat until the engine is warmed up (the temp gauge needle should be about centered) it will take a while to warm up at idle, and maybe 5 - 10 minutes driving it 'gently' should also do the trick

Yeah I had it a little left of the center mark with still not amazing heat, at one point it actually cooled itself halfway down between 130 and 210.

what engine do you have? A 4.7 needs to be burped to get rid of all the air in the lines.

Then you just have to park on an incline, wait until the engine is cool. Take off the rad cap and start the engine. When the coolant gets moving, pour coolant into the filler neck until you don't see the flowing any more. Replace the cap, drive a few minutes. Repark at the incline, cool off the engine. Take off the cap and restart the engine. Check if the coolant is still at the level where you left it. If so, you just filled your radiator. If not, fill some more until full. If you check it a few days and the level is lower, you have a leak! HTH.

Listen to the expert!^^^^

Next, check your overflow hose to the reservoir from the cap mount on the radiator for holes and replace as necessary. This is only a couple of dollar replacement. Replace the radiator cap as well.

Make sure you keep the reservoir full.
