Default cooling question!

My car always runs on the cooler side. ive never had any problems with the engine overheating on free ways, citi driving, long trips etc. It seems to only get hot when going up steep inclines. yesterday i found this really steep curvy road that i decided to go on and i noticed that i drove on it for a good 5 minutes with the rpms at 2500 going about 15 mph up the hill and the engine seemed to get hot very quickly, the temp guage went up right below the line before the hot zone on the guage. i also noticed this happeneing when driving up steep inclines while going to big bear etc. the engine never over heated but i get scared and stop driving to let it cool. is something wrong with my cooling system? any way to increase cooling capacity? or is this normal when going up a steep hill with a fatty v8 engine?

thanks.

Have you checked your water level, and when was the last time you replaced your clutch fan?

A different idea for you is to take your D down to the car wash and pop the hood and spray the radiator and condenser out (both sides) as good as you can. This will get all the crap out of it and it can exchange heat better. Don't spray the motor!

how would you know if its time to replace the clutch fan? My fan has good resistance both ways, and is not loose or shakey.

spin the clutch fan, if it goes more than one turn (i think) replace it, for reference, mine with about 92k miles on it, spins less than one blad when spun

side note/disclaimer: do this with the engine off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Milliwizard, check the fan out, if it is failed I can only offer one suggestion. If it has failed then it should be easy to r/r yourself just get a Chiltons manual and follow directions, personally I would recommend Bosch

DO NOT TAKE IT TO PEPBOYS....... That is all, I havent been in SOCAL for quite a while, so I can not recommend where to take it but I can definitely suggest where NOT to take it.

mine has 92k on it too and it spins just like yours shrp. seems to be working perfectly fine. This incline that i climbed was pretty dang steep so i think its a given that the engine would heat up more right? it didnt go in the hot zone but stopped right before the line that seperates normal temp and hot zone.
