Default Flowmaster Single in/out exhuast?

Hey guys still a little new to this forum but my question was about my exhaust sytem. I have an all stock 2002 4.7l slt+ dodge durango. Well i have a cold air intake as well but nothing more.

Now my question is i have a stock exhaust as well only i have cut the stock muffler out for a flowmaster super 44 series muffler. It sounds nice! I like it but i'm looking to change it up.

Now the main thing i want to do is make it a little louder and maybe a little more agressive. I had only two thoughts since I WANT TO KEEP IT A SINGLE EXHAUST!! ALSO WANT TO KEEP MY FLOWMASTER AS WELL GUYS! I KNOW STRAIGHT PIPE WILL BE LOUDEST AND MAYBE AFTER MY FLOWMASTER RUSTS OUT ON ME WILL I STRAIGHT PIPE IT AFTER MY CAT!!!!

1.) Cut off the tail pipe and dump the exhuast right after the super 44. There is aout 3-4 ft of tail pipe? it runs out the back now and i want it to dump roughly underneath the rear side passenger seat.

2.) Right after my super 44 increase the pipe size from 2.25 to 3.00 inches. I have a 3.5 inch by 18 inch tip so it would be 3 inches until it gets to a 3.5 inch tip. Since those tips are supposed to make an echo effect would it not help to get bigger piping after the super 44?

-My thoughts on bigger tubing afterwards was this: Smaller tubing equal faster flow. Faster flow into the super 44 then larger piping to make it echo through and then out of an even larger tip? Since i already have the tip that changes the echo effect would the larger piping still help?

Well those are my 2 ideas to change my exhaust to be just a bit more agressive and a little bit louder.

If you guys have any ideas of things i can do for cheap that would make it louder let me know!!!

Also cheap for me would be 0-100 dollars lol!

Only 18 working part time at minimum wage so now you guys know my budget!

HERE ARE TWO VIDEOS OF MY EXHAUST SO YOU GUYS CAN HEAR WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE NOW!!!

It doesn't need to be any louder. Especially in that neighborhood. Your parents, neighbors will appreciate that. As you age beyond 18, you will realize it is already too loud and that driving that fast in the neighborhood is also a bad idea. It takes one little ball, rolling out in the street followed by a 3 year old that you run over to end the rest of your 18-year old care free life. Seriously dude. Loud enough as it is. Sounds aggressive and fine. To loud actually but that is another conversation.

The flowmaster super 44 that you have will not get any louder with larger exhaust. It flows freely enough and if you are looking for better mileage, louder is NOT going to do that for you. An engine needs a certain amount of back pressure and without that certain amount, your mileage will drop. I know a Cat produces a significant amount of back pressure but the muffler also aids to the design of the exhaust to further assist in the back pressure that the engine needs. The 4.7 engine was already designed with a tuned and freer flowing exhaust in it's stock form. That is why when you do a search and see if headers might help, they do not assist in helping the engine put out any more power or fuel mileage. Stop wasting your money to make the Durango sound louder, louder is not good for mileage! If you want loud, put a glass pack muffler on it and wait a few months down the road for the fiberglass in the mufflers to burn out. That will equate to a straight pipe.

the flowmaster 44 sounds like the stock performance muffler on my R/T!!!

Anyways, to add to back pressure issue, you can lose alot of torque if you mess around with the exhaust flow too much.

Well to be honest guys i have had my truck straight piped with thin piping that made it sound nasty and high crackling sounds and popping but i find that large iping wont do that. Also i didnt notice any drop in mpg's from having it straight piped guys. thanks for the concern and yeah ABOUT THE SPEEDING thing i never speed in my neighborhood! that ws midday when parents are workin and kids are at school. I've had a glasspack to man gotta say it wasnt much louder then the flowmaster. It was a tiny bit louder but not much man, i had it on for about 2 months aka 1000 miles or so.

And yeah honestly in person the thing isnt that loud maybe from behind it but if you roll the windows down and rev it up i dont feel like it is that loud. Well thanks for the input guys maybe next summer i'll straight pipe it again.

My mpg's have gone up about 1.4 mpg since my intake was put in. I dont have much of a lead foot. at least not anymore...

and i do realize you need back pressure but full piping and a cat converter should be enough for me

Dude, we answered your questions and you keep asking about the exhaust. We offered you advice because you seeked it. It is ALWAYS going to sound quieter from just sitting there with the windows rolled down. The exhaust will sound louder coming from the rear, the direction of the sound. Like I said, no sound is louder than with straight pipes and if you like to hear all that popping, crackling sound, that is your only choice. Your last post contradicts your first post.

45Autopete,

I'm Sincerely sorry if i seem like a jackass to you. or an idiot I dont mean to be. I'm just a kid who wants a loud exhaust. I'm sorry if that bothers you in some way. I know some stuff not all thats why I was asking. When I first got a straight pipe in place of my muffler it sounded horrible. I saw another guy with a 3 inch pipe after the cat it sounded much better. He had the same engine as me and same year but his was a dakota. I realzied aftwards that larger pipe sounds different from smaller pipe.

But my questions where these

1.) Cut off the tail pipe and dump the exhuast right after the super 44. There is about 3-4 ft of tail pipe? it runs out the back now and i want it to dump roughly underneath the rear side passenger seat.

If I do either of these to my exhaust I still have my cat converter and my muffler. I just wanna know if it will help doing either of these. I dont exacty have a million dollars to just throw away but I wanna do something more with it. But reading your last post I figure you're not coming back to this post.

Also Same to you Shrpshtr325, i wish my knowledge for my truck was as expansive as yours, but its not. I'm trying to learn. No one can tell me that i'm not.

lmao pete

and josh, its not a problem to ask questions(its great that you want to learn), but we have answered your questions, and all that you do is keep asking them over again with different wording each time

dont change your exhaust in any way that will reduce backpressure or you will regret it simple as that.
