Things I have found
Had this D a few days and have read most of the D Gen I forum. Many questions answered before I could ask them.
#1. No shroud or electric fan to cool it. Just the clutched fan on the water pump shaft. I don't see where there was ever one on it.
#2. There is an extra cooler on it. The radiator sits to the rear, what looks to be an oil cooler that is nearly the size of the radiator in front of it and in front of both of those is a third cooler. This appears to be aftermarket and is about 9"X14: or so. I haven't followed those lines to see where it goes, but am guessing it is a secondary trans cooler.
This extra cooler probably does not bode well for the trans, but I am going to purge it anyway along with changing the filters to see if it straightens out the rough shift.
I am going to pull the T-Stat and replace with a 180 and bypass the heater core today. Don't need in South Texas and it seems to run warm.
Pics of the coolers will follow in a bit.
Any suggestions on the absence of the fan?
EDIT: Middle cooler is for the A/C.

98s and 99s did NOT have an aux eFan. That was added in 2000. Also the reason you run hot with AC on in stand still traffic.
+1 on stat update. Good idea.
That second cooler is aftermaket and not original. Just open the bottom line on that hose clamp and see what fluid drips out then tighten it back up. You will know what it is then. The RUBBER hoses in/out are throwing me. My coolers all have solid lines.

The clutch fan will not work well without the shroud. You may need to go to the boneyard to get a shroud for this. Don't know why the shroud is missing in the first place??? The shroud usually will have your fluids for radiator/wiper, etc...
Thanks guys. The wiper fluid reservoir is on the firewall near #8 cylinder. I don't see a coolant overflow. I think it is vented to the ground. Boneyard trip today...
Not sure what the flex fan you are referring to is so I will do some searching here on the forum. I am finding A LOT of screwed up thins under the hood; might just buy another SUV or truck to run to the track as I think this is going to take some time to get right. Someone got creative with the wiring harness under the hood...

Your reservoir bottle is located between the condenser and the drivers head light. If it is not there you can get a new one from www.rockauto.com.
The shroud should be there so get one from a 1998-1999 Durango from a junk yard.

I will post in the am. Spent the day working in the interior. Seems the previous owner was drinking heavily when the stereo install was done. I drink some Shiner when doing this kind of work, but wow...
