I did a lot of searching on here and couldn't find the exact problem I am having. 2003 5.9l 4x4 auto with 60k on it. The truck shifts in to part, but the little ring around the Park indicator doesn't light up. It lights up around all the gears when you shift to them correctly, but neutral does not light up either. So, I am stuck and it won't start at all.
I did get it to light up in park once tonight, but as soon as I tried to start it, the ring went away. Is it the neutral safety switch? That is my best guess so far. Thanks!!
sounds to me like the nss (neutral safety switch) or the wiring btwn that and the rest of the truck. idk of anything else that tells the computer what gear you are in (or arent in, lol)
IIRC, there was a tsb on how the shift lever would go into gear w/o the key being inserted. The nss is a whole different problem. I bypassed it by doing some wiring inside and outside the engine and cabin.
NSS is $22 and it should be here tonight. I am going to give that a shot first, it looks like an easy swap. Anything I should watch out for? Is the switch above the fluid level, or is it going to leak all over me?
