My 2001 durango is having another electrical problem. The vehicle was fine one minute, got out and shut it off. Got back in and started the vehicle but could hear something engaged so pulled over, shut it off and then restarted but still hearing the abs system active. Even after disconnecting the battery for awhile, when I start it the abs system in engaged. What do I have to fix now?

 

what makes you think it is the ABS system? does the brake pedal pulse when you push on it? is the ABS or BRAKE light on? (if not then likely its something besides the ABS system)

give us more details and we will be able to help you better (engine drivetrain miles ect ect, too much info is better than not enough)

 

Is the ABS lite on? If it is on,you need to have the codes removed and post.

 

Here it is guys...2001, 120,000 miles. Has had all regular routine maintenance. As far as repairs with electrical it has been the ususal...clock spring, blower resistor and now this. I say the ABS system because the light came on and youj know the sound your ABS makes when you start to slide on the ice and it kicks in, that is the sound coming from under the hood. I disconnected the battery last night and thought whatever it was would reset overnight but when I reconnected this morning it engages again.when facing the vehicle with the hood up it is on the far right-hand side close to the dash. Both the brake light and ABS light are on. Is the just a sensor or switch malfunctioning??

 

Sounds like a ABS sensor is shorted causing the growling ABS module under the hood that your hearing. Most of the time it is a bad rear ABS sensor. Replace it and hook the battery back up. on top of the rear differential, not that hard to get too if you take the spare tire down, but it is in there good and tight so be careful not to break it

Hey guys, replaced the rear abs sensor and it didn't fix it...still have the lights on and the whirring motor noise under the hood....next step??
