4.7 magnum/powertech engine optimal rpm range.
ok so i have a 02 durango slt+ with the magnum/powertech 4.7 4wd stock. even with moderant throttle from a light you get a good slap in the face of torque and full throttle will snug you in the seat. has put good woopen of decent cars.
anyhow sometimes while messing around at a stop i'll bring the rpms up around 2k before the axles start making noises and launch her off which feels pretty dam nice. but im curious what is the best rpm range to launch at? thanks.
also what could i expect in the quarter, stock 4.7, 4wd, slt+, fully loaded but 5.9, alarm, and video group, 3rd row seats removed. it seems much faster then 16's and what could i expect to 0-60? thanks!

id say 16s out of one of these boat anchors would be very good in the stock form, especially with the 4.7, 0-60, i dont have a time for it, but it gets there quick enough for me. tbh these are trucks, not cars, i dont exactly expect the amazing performance out of them, they are quick for their size, but not fast by any means, if you want to time these numbers and report back, feel free we would love to see what the numbers are and how they compare.
I remember reading somewhere (not sure where) that all engines make hp most efficiently at a certain piston velocity (linear) which translated to about 2150rpms for the 4.7l engines, if i can find that reading ill post up a link for you

thanks, iv never really have had the throttle down for a full 1/4 mile from a dead stop, but they sure do pull hard from a dead stop for a few secs though, but highway racing sucks lol. gotta ask though, why are these cars so heavy and why do they get such bad mpg? i just really dont understand. im debating on removing the spare and what not because i dont go far, i cannot for the life of me understand scissor jacks, and it removes an good chunk of weight.
they are heavy bc they are built on a TRUCK frame (dakota pickup to be exact)
they get bad gas mileage bc they at a 2.5 ton TRUCK with rather big engines (v8s are not known for good gas mileage), and the aerodynamics of a brick, not meant to be efficient imo (tho i really dont do too bad considering the size/weight of the truck)

do you happen to know of any good free mods? nothing that will ruin apperance though. are they really horrible in the aerodynamics category? as i know there not the most aerodynamic appering but dont seem to be near as bad as most other suv's with flat front ends and what not. btw how much do you think a cut out would help? i was thinking of buying just a cheap basic one to get stuck on. how much could i expect to spend? and has anyone done a ram air/cai from the fogs yet?

an exhaust cut out? dont waste your money, you need to have some back pressure on the system otherwise you loose all the torque (what actually makes the truck move) so you will most likely make it LESS efficient by doing that
ram air is done DIY by most of us, right out the on the passenger side of the radiator, just cut the flaps out, and also check the DIY thread stickied to the top of the forum (kinda the top lol) as it will explain ALOT of tips/tricks for these trucks w/o us retyping them for you

i looked thru the stickies but didnt see any ram air projects thru the fogs. is there a way to route a hose towards the back of the hood near the winshield? im only seeing the ones that cut thru something near the radiator which i dont know i'll wanna do.

taking the ram air out by the fog light would put too many bends into the piping to preserve efficiency, your best bet is to just take off the rubber splash guard btwn the radiator and the headlight on the passenger side and just push a piece of pipe through the opening (that is what everyone else has done)
