Default Body Control Module (alarm troubles)

I am having alarm troubles in my 01 Durango and the dealer says it sounds like the body control module (bcm) .They told me it was in the gauge cluster on the dash and that I would have to replace the whole gauge cluster at $600 plus dollars. When you unlock the door with the remote or the key and then open the door the alarm goes off, it will shut off when you put the key in the ing. and start it, but this does not always shut it off. Can anybody help me? What about the CTM ? My son put his boss"s Snap On Computer scan tool on it and it comes up #1 ROM Check sum failed and #2 Door ajar input.
Thanks

i have never heard of a bcm, but it sounds to me like the CTM is acting up (even without the codes from your sons tool)

that would be my starting point especially with the rom code coming out

just remember to take your keys with you to the dealer so that they can program the new ctm with your key fobs.

Do a factory alarm reset first:

DO NOT USE THE KEY FOB WHILE DOING THIS.

This is how to complete a full reset of the alarm.

Hope it fixes the issue!

BCM **is** the CTM per 1998 specs. His 2001 is (properly) called a CTM.

IIRC, BCM is also a FORD term. Their combo of BCM, GEM and CPU do what our PCM and CTM do together.
