Default Engine compatibility

I've got an '01 Durango with a blown 32 tooth 4.7. Could this be original, or has it been replaced? Will an '06 32 tooth 4.7 fit?

32 tooth 4.7 to 32 tooth 4.7 should be fine. With that said, any from a 01-03 will certainly match and be a safer bet.

They should fit but I would look for something in 01-03 first. They changed the motor to create more power and thus they changed parameters so I'm not sure 2004+ will work, but it would be fun to find out.

2000-2003<-----2000-2004 - 4.7 L (287 cu in) PowerTech V8, 230 hp (170 kW)

2004+<----- Its new 4.7 liter V8 produces 302 hp (225 kW) and 329 lb·ft (446 N·m) of torque.

if it has the same tone ring on the engine it SHOULD swap out just fine, but i would personally try to find one from the same year

you messed it up again

2004(or 05)-2007 4.7L = 230 hp
4.7L H.O.(high output) = 265(iirc)hp

2008 (the "NEW") 4.7L = 310 HP (as per the build sheet in my dads 09 dakota)

You can't trust the wiki-sources. It also says "HS" was instrumental in co-engineering the new 4.7l

Default Engine swap

I also have an 01 durango with a bad 4.7l i bought a 06 4.7l crate motor from a swamp meet and not knowing any beter swamped the moter out and everything bolted up then i found out 01 and some 02's had 16 tooth ring tones and the rest had 32 tooth ring tone. I read all the post and found out the easiest way is to swap out the ring tones but thats only from the 1st gen to the 2nd gen. I still have not herd that an 06 motor will work in an 01 durango is their anybody out there that knows this will work for sure. Also would it be easier to swap out the wiring harness to the newer pcm or is their anyone that can reprogram these to get this engine to run in my truck.

According to Sharps it will work.

The 2000 and some 2001's have a 16 tooth while the rest 2001 up have 32 tooth, not just gen 1 and gen 2 Tony.

As for your other question. You should replace the tone ring from your old engine which is a 16 tooth to the new motor. Don't mess with anything else because the PCM also talks to many other modules. YOu will have to seporate the motor and trans.

on purpose! Since it wasn't correct in the above. LOL.

I don't think HS has realized the wiki illustration yet. You can't trust it. Nice for reference but not always reliable for facts.
