I just received and installed the rebuilt PCM.
Everything is working again.

I got the PCM shipped and everything for $194 from http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/a...rexchange-ace/
They send a return paid shipping label to send back your original one as a core. They give a waranty as long as you send in the core.

I'm sure they just fix whatever is broken. But this was the best price I have found because a used PCM from the junk yard is useless if not programmed to your VIN (emissions reasons).

No, I am referring to the one you proposed to get from the junk yard.

How would you get it to the dealer for a flash (since I was told you can only flash it in the vehicle ...)?

this is clearly not true since you can order them online PRE-FLASHED to your trucks specifications

Before this thread dies, one more question (now that the OP has solved his problem). If you buy a rebuilt PCM & get it flashed to your VIN, is there any way to get them to avoid the "death flash"?

I took my Grand Cherokee 5.9 in for some reason once (can't remember why, no longer have it) and the damn dealer gave it the death flash without my okay. I think it was already done to the D when I bought it, but I'd just as soon not have it. Possible?

i would think that you will get the most up to date (read: most recent)version, if you know the software version number you want, you could MAYBE get it (ask, worst they say is no) but chances are no

I can dream.

check the PCM to see if it has the death flash, if it does it should have a sticker referencing that it was done.

The place that I got it from http://stores.ebay.com/AUTO-COMPUTER-EXCHANGE
mentions that it comes with the "latest updates" so I would think perhaps it includes the "death flash".
I'm kinda thinking the "death flash" you all speak of is likely for the 5.2/5.9's.

I did have one problem with my PCM I received. Shortly after driving the check engine light came on. Getting P601. Internal memory issue. But everything else ok.
When I called they said they get that periodically when the battery is disconnected when for a while and when changing the PCM's.
They told me to leave the battery connected when I switch to the next one they will send me.

Also when I first got the PCM the idle was slightly high etc which was expected for a pcm without learning the vehicle.
It's been in there for several days now and today I noticed the idle is now around 600 or so where it is supposed to be and seems to be really smooth.
I don't notice any lack of power.

Oh yeah, when I had that temp pcm in there that don't match my vehicle and caused a "No buS" and no gauges, it also was ignoring the "torque managment" signal form the transmission module because it was shifting on full power. LOL!
My 2003 Dakota had the 4 plug PCM with the built in tranny control. I had to use a superchips to firm up the shifts (and that it sure did!) but with this I should be able to put a switch on the wire for the Torque Managment Request form the Transmission module like I did for ****s n giggles to my wife's Cirrus she used to have.
But, with 100,000 miles I'll likely leave it stock. I don't want to replace the tranny yet. :-/

yes the deathflash is a 5.2/5.9 deal, put in place as a 'band-aid' fix to predetonation/pinging
