Swapped the PCM now "no bus"
Yesterday my 2001 Durango 4.7 stalled while driving.
The first time it stalled it took me 15+ minutes before it started again.
Then I drove it and it stalled several more times but would restart each time.
Drove it to work today and it stalled a few times.
When I went to leave work it would not start at all. Just cranked over.
When under the hood I left the key on and was checking things. When I wiggled one of the connectors at the PCM I heard relays click and then I was able to start it.
On the way home it stalled several times.
Well here's the deal. I wonder if it is the PCM or the connector.
I happen to have a PCM from a 2000 Dakota.
I installed it and while the engine starts I get NO BUS and the gauges don't work.
It still shows the odometer reading form the old PCM then says NO BUS.
I wondered if there was something I needed to reset to get it to work with the other pcm.
Right now I have the battery disconnected for a while to see what happens. I disconnedted it briefly earlier to reset and no luck.
BTW. Anyone from the old DodgeDakota or DodgeTrucks forums, I went by the name GraphiteDak. I had a 2003 Dakota. I traded it straight across for this 2001 Durango. I haven't been on those boards in a long time and can't seem to remember my passwords. :-(

chances are the 2000 dakota PCM is from a 5.x series engine and wont work with your truck (the 4.7 is different from the 3.9 and 5.x series engines and the pcms are not interchangeable) assuming that it IS from a 4.7l 2000 dakota it should work, but you would need to get your mileage flashed into it.
the gauge cluster stores the mileage on its own independent of the PCM, so that is normal
and since you said you can wiggle the connector and get it to work that would lead me to believe that you have a loose/bad connection, check the plugs and pins for corrosion, and inspect the wire harness btwn the PCM and the dashboard for any worn insulation/bare wire/frayed wire or anything else out of the ordinary.
funny story, my dads 96 dakota had a similar problem, and when we went looking for it, turned out that mice had built a nest under the hood while we were camping with my boyscout troop, they had chewed threw some of the wires causing a short and the problem.

The PCM in question is from a 4.7 in a 2,000 Dakota. I had bought it from a junk yard several years ago.
I have an extra 4.7 I was going to rebuild and install into a car.
I have the wiring harness too.
Anyway after leaving the battery disconnected for at least 30 minutes I tried it again. Same thing. Starts but no gauges, NO BUS etc.
So I put the original one back in.
I cleaned all the battery terminals.
Added an extra ground from battery to the chassis.
Added a ground form the PCM bolt to the chassis (just in case).
Started it up. Wiggled that one connector to the PCM and it stalled again.
At this point I HOPE it's a bad pin socket in that connector.
The pins in the PCM look good.
And since I have an extra wiring harness, I can splice in the other connecter and hope my PCM is good.
Bummer deal. But at least I did get home today.

You may have a sensor taking the bus system down. Unplug the crank sensor and see if the cluster comes back.if it does, replace the sensor.if you still have a no bus, unplug more sensors.
Anyway tonight I replaced the connector on the PCM that makes it work again when I wiggle it.
No dice. It still randomly stalls.
Sometimes it don't restart until I wiggle that terminal.
As I wiggle the terminal I hear the relays click and I can restart it.
It is definitely a broken connection inside the PCM. And now it's getting worse after it's been unplugged and plugged in a few times.
I hope one of the salvage yards have one for my vehicle tomorrow.
2001 Durango 4.7 4WD.
BTW. I believe I have the sensors from the extra 4.7 I have. It's a 2000 though so not sure if it is the same. I know they changed a few things on certain years.
But still, a bad sensor wouldn't cause the relays to click as I wiggle the PCM connector.

Besides the salvage yards, anyone know of a good place to find a PCM?
How about aftermarket that isn't a fortune?
I know these 4.7's have decent programs already so aftermarket isn't going to do anything except raise my limiters, etc. But if the cost is about the same...

go to ebay and they will sell you a new one preflashed with your vehicle information and a lifetime warranty for about $200

But of course it will be days to get one.
If I can get one from a salvage yard for $90 to $100 (like the other one I got) then it shoudn't cost any more than $100 to get the dealer to flash it.
Anyway. Our Caravan blew a tire last night when my wife was coming home from work. The spare tire is on it.
So now I got to go get a new tire for that first thing this AM before I can go search for a PCM. :-(
I should have it today (UPS shows to be delivered) and it is supposed to be "Plug And Play" as I gave them my VIN and mileage.
Right now I'm still running on my extra one from a Dakota. It runs fine but I get the "No buS" in the odometer and no gauges, etc.
In fact, since even the A/C works through the PCM, I have it jumpered out under the hood so I have A/C as it is 107 degrees today.
