Cool 2003 Durango noise

I have a 2003 durango 4x4 that is making a loud and almost unbearable noise when I drive. The noise kicks in when I hit around 30mph and is loud until i hit around 70mph when is gets a little less. The noise is there when driving and turning left but totally disappears when turning to the right. I just had the brakes done as they were very low and rotated all 4 tires thinking it was the wear/tread. Everything I have read points to wheel bearings and if thats the case which side could it be?

If you're turning left and the noise is there, I'd say it's the right front wheel bearing. Cause when you turn left, you put pressure on the right front bearing. Have it checked out. It wouldn't hurt to replace both bearings at the same time. JMHO.

definitely a wheel bearing, and i agree with replacing them both, but i would expect the noise to get less when the weight shifts off a bearing, not when it shifts onto it.

Agree with the possibility of the hub/hub bearing.

Absolutely disagree with doing both of them at the same time. You are looking at $225 each and could have 50-75,000 more miles between the time one dies verses the other. Personal experience!

Side note: Your brake shop that just did the brakes screwed you. Hub bearing is common to check when doing the brakes BECAUSE to replace the hub, all of the brakes on that side have to come off again. Sounds like additional labor dollars to me. Let the screw job commence.

Shrps, you of all people should know physics. Like the OP stated, he would hear the noise when turning left. That means the right bearing is bad cause it would mean metal rubbing against w/o the bearings smoothing things out. When he turns right, the load is off the bad bearing and on the good left hub bearing.

I had the same problem (noise and vibration) and it turned out to be the front right wheel hub bearing. I changed the whole hub assembly and the noise went away, along with the vibration. My wheel was getting ready to fall off it wobbled so bad.

yes and when he turns right, the weight shifts OFF the bearing and the sound goes away, i just said it differently
