Default Shifting issues

Ok came home and my wife tells me that the Durango will not start, after messing with it for 30 mins I pull the starter and test it and replace it. When I got done I got in and drove to my parents house and noticed the check engine light was on. When I went to leave the durango would not change out gears it just stayed in first, this is an automatic. I pulled the codes last night but forgot what exactly they were. They said something about the governor pressure sensor or something. My buddy is coming over in a few min and I can read the codes again and tell ya'll exactly what they were. The weird thing is this shift changing issues is hit and miss sometimes it runs then sometimes it doesn't any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the lengthy story.

Thanks, toolmkr20

did you check the trans fluid level (trans needs to be hot so drive 15+ miles, and engine running with trans in nuetral)??

master tech should chime in shortly with more ideas since he is the local transmission expert

I have a '99 Durango 4x4 5.9L and had the exact same problem as you. It started with mine as not shifting into higher gears, then eventually deteriorated into the engine dying while driving. I took to mechanic and they pulled the codes and replaced a few sensors but that did not fix it. Then I looked on here and someone said it was the PCM. I bought a refurbished one on eBay for $200. It was the easiest thing ever. You just send them the milage, VIN, and PCM model number and they program it and you just plug it in. Takes about 5 minutes to take the old one out and replace. Now it runs like a dream. Hope this helps.
