Ok so I took my Durango to the tranny shop, and the guy says he can fix it for $400. I can do the work myself just curious where can I get the Governor Pressure Sensor. I am having no luck at the local parts stores such as Auto Zone or O'riellys. My other question is where do I look on the trans to find the model # or serial # to order the parts? Thanks in advance for any help.

Please post the year and motor you have and if it is 4X4 or 2wd.

 

It is a 1999 5.2 liter 4x4 with an automatic trans. The 4x4 shifter is in the floor.

I have a 2000 Durango R/T. This has the 5.9L motor and the AWD (not 4WD) transfer case. Just under 173K miles, original engine and tranny.

What trans will it have? Or will I need to check a number on the casing?

It has had an intermittent problem of only upshifting at high RPM (about 3K). It was doing this for a day, then back to normal for a few months. Now it's doing it all the time. Downshifts are a bit hard too. I forget where I read it, but moving the shift lever to N and then back to D makes it upshift at lower RPM.

It's probably due for a fluid/filter change. Fluid is a nice color, not burned, at correct level.

I'll check the throttle-valve cable adjustment and lube it.

If that doesn't fix it, I'll get a quote from a tranny shop to do the band adjustment and sensor/solenoid swaps (with new filter and fluid, of course). Then make a decision whether to have them do it or shop for parts. But I'll need to know what I'm buying parts for.

Should be the 46RE.

Call around before you just drop it off at a transmission shop. A lot of shops won't adjust the bands and will pressure you into a flush... Don't do it. Also, make sure they use ATF +4 fluid -No exceptions! This should be about $100.

 

My shop costs me $130 plus tax to drop the pan, new filter, adjust the bands, and refill. He gives me a good deal because I've paid him a lot of cash over the years. Most of the time he charges $150-$160 for the same job, but the extra fluid costs em for the ATF+4, it costs them 3 times as much then the regular universal fluids, so you add that into the costs.

BTW<---- This particular shop does it right the first time, but you have to pay for it.

 

I use the same shop as Indy. So I'm certain it's good. It may have been closer to $150 when I had it done back in Sept; I don't remember exactly.

 

Or you can bring your own fluids and filters for the change. See if they will just charge you for labor.
