OK - so I went to lower the spare on the 2001 Durango and found that the jagbag at the Firestone who put my tires on had broke off the pin in the threaded rod that you would spin to lower the spare. Nice of them to let me know - I totally understand that this stuff breaks becasue it is never used but at least tell me so I'm not stranded.

Any suggestions on repair / replace?

 

Replace. Junkyard part only. Reportedly no longer available new.

I don't think its welded on so take a look, grab the tools and take it off. Action speaks louder than text on a website.

 

Just the pin? Maybe a cut-off nail of the same diameter shoved into the hole may help?
