CV Joint?
02 Durango 5.9L AWD 153k
Two weeks ago I got new tires and an alignment at Firestone. Well today I decided to take a look at my noisy brakes and found a huge mess on the back side of my front driver side tire, brake caliper, wheel/fender splash guard (??), and CV boot. I don't see a tear in the boot but the grease does appear to have been "slung around"...
It is brown and gritty (grit may be kicked up off the road). It is not a fluid... feels like a thick greasy lube. Anyone have any suggestions? Here are a few pics.

So I decided to change the entire cv shaft. Having problems getting it to separate from the front differential. Instead of separating at the splines, the splined part inside the diff started to come out of the housing. How big of a problem is this? and how in the world do I get this axle off?
I have heard of this before and I believe the member just pulled it and seporated it on the vice then reinstalled. Then install the new shaft with a little grease on the splines. You do NOT want to drop the front diff!
I know nothing about differentials. Will it damage anything if the splined portion comes completely out of the differential? Someone told me that a gear may drop or misalign...
