Default Picture and New Dilema

shrpshtr325- excellent thank you.

so the picture of my wire nest under the sterring wheel is below, is this stock? or what? I do not think it is and i have no idea what it is to.

My next delema is that after replacing the crank sensot, my durango ran like a dream brand new. started right up with no stalling. Drove to the bank, turned it off, started back up, drove to the gas station, put gas in it, WOULD NOT START BACK UP. Finally got it to start up by wiggling computer wires. Drove home, decided to chance it and take it to Portland (an hour drive there), no stalling, started right up everytime. Driving back home, same thing no problems, stopped in Salem to get gas and guess what?! it does not start up again! Finally got it to start and drove home, now it starts everytime. Whenever i get gas it does not start. ANY IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS?

that is NOT stock, you can tell by inline fuse holder that is there, looks like someone installed an aftermarket system (probably an alarm) and screwed it up, i would look into removing the alarm

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but you guys are in over your head. All the money you've spent throwing parts at it, you could have paid someone who is qualified MUCH less to diagnose it for you and be done with this nonsense. If you're trying to diagnose a computer controlled vehicle without a service manual, scan tool and wiring diagrams of some sort, you might as well just stand back and throw rocks at it. It will do about the same amount of good.

I hate to be the hijacker, but I mean let's get real here.

if thats the way you feel then i wonder why you are even on these forums, thats what they are here for is to help people diagnose and fix their vehicles without getting screwed by a shop/dealer, and in the process maybe they learn something too

also, OP i would check that fuse in the wire nest and see if its good.

Default Wire nest

shrpshtr325- we will see what we can do with taking the wire nest out. I will let you know if the fuse is good.

TNtech- how many durangos have you fixed with this problem? if you have the answer, im sure thousands of people would be interested to know the solution. If you search online, thousands of people cant figure it out, along with dodge not knowing anything about it or how to fix it. Why dont you do some research before telling people to take it to a dealer, im sure you make the big bucks trying to fix problems then telling the customer sorry we cant figure it out but we did replace these things so you still owe us but not actually fixing the problem of why they brought the car in to begin with.
Oh and by the way, we have the scan tool, diagrams, and service manual.... and scan tool only helps when codes are being thrown.... sorry to burst your bubble but there are no codes

DODGE HAS NO IDEA OF HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEMS

LOL

Dude we've correctly diagnosed thousands of issues with out the help of a OB computer. Your post simply states:

"I have all the tools at my disposal if the check engine light is on!"

Turn key to "on" position just before starting the engine
Repeat two more times
Last time leave on "on" position
Read the codes that appear from the odometer
Write codes (if any) down and look up codes in the DIY section of DF.
Diagnose and repair the problem.

Default still no solution but may have one??

So i posted my durango up for sale and one person emailed me and told me they had the exact same problem and replaced everyhting I have, until they replaced the catalytic converter with no problems since.... would a bad or clogged cat have anything to do with the fuel pump side of the computer not wanting to initiate? or work?

no, the catalytic convert would not have any effect on the fuel pump working, however a clogged cat with too much back pressure will cause the truck to not run correctly, or for very long. however this would not come up all of a sudden, it would be running poorly for a while before it would shut off, and it usually indicates some other, more major problem with the engine (burning excess oil for example)
