Default Transmission Speed Sensor

I've been reading the forums for a few weeks now as a guest but I'm a new member.

I own a 2003 Durango, 4.7L V8, 4WD automatic transmission.

I've been trying to track down the Transmission speed sensor and have not been able to locate it. From reading some of the posts in the forum I was expecting it to be directly mounted on the tranny. I looked all over the tranny and haven't been able to locate it.

I guess my first question is, does this exist on my car? If so, if you could please direct me like I'm a 2 year old to where I would find it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you in advance for any direction you may be able to provide. It will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to DF
The sensor thats in the picture is for a 42/44RE or 46/47/48RE transmission. Your transmission is a 45RFE or 545RFE. The input and output sensors are interchangeable. In other words same part number either one. You will find the sensors on the driver side and there will be two wires going into them. The one closes to the engine is the input and rear one is the output.

Great detailed answer. Would that description hold true for the tranny that's in my Durango as well? And when you say "on the driver side" you mean driver side of the transmission? Or up under the dash somewhere ...
Forgive me if this is a dumb question. I dunno much about the Dodge, & I have been told my sensor might be bad.

I think MS means the sensors are on the transmission and located on the driver's side as opposed to the passenger's side of the tansmission.

If you have a 4.7L engine, then yes the sensors are the same. If you have a 5.9L engine, then you have the output sensor.Which would be same sensor in the picture on the first post.
