tranny leak
1999 durango
I have a pretty serious transmission leak. When i crawl under it its all over the crossmember for the tranny. Theres nothing on the pan. I made sure the pan bolts were all tight too. It looks like its leaking where the tranny meets the adapter. Is this possible? Also it only leaks from the passenger side of the tranny. The otherside is clean. I checked the adapter bolts also and they were tight. Can i just back up the transfercase alittle and put some silicone around it? Any help is appreciated

With a name like, "why did I buy a dodge?"... I would expect the answer to be that you will find the value of alienating the assistance you could find from other Dodge owners that are very proud of their purchases and decisions quite enlightening.
A: "Good luck with your vehicle."

Did you do a transmission fluid drain and fill? Did you use rtv silicone or gasket? Could be you need to drop the tranny pan again and reseal the whole thing with rtv from mopar or equivalent. Remember, use atf+4 from mopar and change out the filter or filters.
There may be your problem. You didn't change the gasket after the fluid replacement. IMHO, I'd change out the old gasket with a new one.

I think the member was asking about the green seal on the back of the extension housing that meets with transfer box. No you can not use RTV to seal it. You need to remove the transfer box and replace the seal.
