I have a 2001 Durango with a 5.9L, auto trans, 4x4 wheel drive. The first thing I thought was odd was that when I went to look at why the 4x4 was not engaging while it was on a lift... I also noticed that you did not to have the brake pedal pressed when the ignition was on in order to shift into various gears. I thought this was odd becuase every vehicle I have ever had... you had to press the brake to get it out of park! Tonight was the first time I tried the 4x4 but when I press the selector switch into 4x4 whether it is low range or high range it does not work. The front tires are not turning at all. I am thinking of the TCCM becuase all of the fuses are fine and I have no CEL. I posted in the past about having an ABS issue with the vibration of the pedal about 3/4ths way down, but I already know that the system has to be bled through the scan tool and the issue with transmission acting like I was pulling a trailor in drive however I have had no issues in the last couple of days. Can all of this be affected in a chain? I am running out of beer money and patience. This is my first Durango and so far I love the 3rd row seating and the pulling power for my boat... but damn... where is the light at the end of the tunnel? I am mechanically inclined but for those of you that can shed some light on habitual issues... please HELP!
check the motor in the t-case that actually does the engaging, have someone in the cab move the switch and see if you can hear the motor running to try and engage the system
Well I checked the transfer case motor... and it did not do anything. I checked for voltage at the plug for the motor and it gave no voltage with the vehicle in neutral, running, and with the 4x4 selector switch in 4x4 high. As I said before all fuses are okay. Starting to sound like the TCCM module???
its in his first post 01 5.9l 4x4
im not so willing to jump right on the tccm bandwagon just yet, i would check all the wiring and see if the switch is sending a signal out TO the tccm, it could be the switch too

+1 Sharps
Anyway, I would first check the fuse and relays, then switch, wiring, and then motor.
So far I have no lights at all when I move the switch... but I do have the typical light up wih parking lights. The engage motor does not seem to engage when the switch is moved... and there is no voltage on the 2 wire plug when it is tested with a volt meter. I have alot of people telling me it is the transfer case module. Where is this at on a 2002 Durango with a 5.9L?
I would start by checking power and ground to the TCCM first. No power won't work. Check the wire harness near the park brake ratchet, sometimes the wires will short to ground on the assy.

This is exactly why I go on here tonight. I noticed the same thing on the way to work. No light indicating the status of the trans. no sound when switching from 2x to 4x.
Fuses good. Guess im tracing wires in the morning then.
