Default 98 Durango Tranny Jerking

My Durango has 240,000km and when I'm driving it sometimes hesitates/jerks so I was wondering if this sounded like the tranny slipping? If Yes, can i fix this myself. I changed the pan and oil around 220,000. One other thing that happened in the summer was that the tranny cooling line sprung a leak so I replaced it. Not sure if a partial restriction in the line would cause this problem.

some more information would help us out here, what engine do you have, what transmission (if you know it) what is the driveline, was anything else done besides the fluid change at that point, if you have a 5.2 or 5.9l v8 you need to have the bands in the transmission adjusted every time you change the fluid

The engine is a 5.9 and it is the slt with trailer package. I changed the cooler line but I bent it myself so I'm not sure if one of the bends might restrict a little bit of the flow and if that could cause this problem. Can I adjust the bands myself? One other thing and it has done this from day 1, sometimes when I start moving in the morning the engine will rev really high for a while before the tranny shifts. Usually it goes away before a km.

the high reving, if it is accompanied by a loud wind noise is just the clutch fan being caught, it lets go and all is back to normal, the bands are something you could adjust if you have a torque wrench (iirc) but you still have to drop the transmission pan before doing so, i would not have left the bent line in place, but if its not bad i dont think it will cause problems

Are there instructions somewhere on how to adjust the bands? I have a torque wrench with a 3/8 drive end, will that do? I'm not sure what iirc is. The cooler line I am referring to is one that came straight and I bent it to match the old one. It looks okay to me but there are many bends and I'm sure some of them are narrower than the original one. I went on a few trips pulling my boat (2000 km or so in total) and I didn't have any problems. I would think that if the tranny cooler line was restricted that it would overheat and also the tranny oil would have a burnt smell. Can I reuse the oil since it only has 20,000 km or best to replace it? I don't remember if there is a drain plg on the pan.

Here's a link to almost all your questions about your tranny: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...wers-faqs.html

IIRC is If I Recall Correctly.

iirc = if i recall correctly (as dan said)

i would NOT reuse the transmission fluid, your torque wrench will work if it is accurate in the correct range, get the shop manual and check the specs on the bands for your truck, i would have left the transmission lines in the shape that they came, a restriction in the line would have reduced the line pressure, not caused the fluid to burn.

and that thread dan linked to, its GOLD, read it and you will learn ALOT

Ok, I will check out the link. I bought a straight line and had to bend it like the original cooler line. If the pressure was restricted could it cause this problem? Should I order the original prebent line?

If the pressure was restricted could it cause this problem? Should I order the original pre-bent line? I read the band adjustment instructions and was wondering why after you torgue the band that you have to back it off two turns?

When you bent the line, did yo notice any kinks along the bends? Like are the bends as round and smooth as the unbent part? If so, then you have restrictions along the line. Honestly, I don't know either why you have to back off the screw when you already torqued it. But I'm sure a Master Tech would know.
