Need HELP painting rims!!
Hey guys, so a buddy of mine has an 03 Durango and he wants to paint his stock rims black. Him and I have a pretty good idea of what to do just not the right primer/paint/clear coat to use. If anyone knows or would like to share there opinion on what a good and correct process is on how to paint these rims black would be very much appreciated!! Thanks!
These are the way they are now....

And this is how he wants them....

Hey jake7 thanks for posting my thread up haha. Yeah painting the rims is not hard but it aint easy. Plenty of places to go wrong trust me i did...lol
I used duplicolor protective enamel. its pretty durable.
DON'T USE DUPLICOLOR WHEEL PAINT!!!
It leaves a horrible powdering residue everywhere!!!
Clean em really well, Sand them down with 320-400 grit sand paper. Then clean the again. i left mine on the truck still which doesnt matter if you spray your coats evenly and from the "RIGHT" distance away.
I didn't use a primer and mine are holding up well after going trough rain dirt gravel roads and the car wash.
Though i do have a lot of paint on them! lol
I messed up enough to where i don't like them. A lot of people tell me it didn't turn out bad though.
So clean them well
Sand them well
Clean them well again
use a enamel "chip resistant" paint or else "RUSTOLEUM" wheel paint. and a rustoleum protective enamel clear coating.
there really isn't much to it.
clean em, sand em, clean em. paint em carefully
GOOD LUCK.
p.s TAKE IT AS A HINT THAT I MESSED UP AND I LEFT THE WHEELS ON THE CAR. o just take em off and dedicate a good few hours to them.
