Default Lock Probelms & more 99 durango

I have a 99 durango 5.2 160,000 miles, but well maintained and excellent shape til recently and have been have a few issues.

1. Rear hatch keeps trying to lock/unlock even though it is already locked/unlocked whenever I try to lock or unlock it using the key fob?

2. Dome light flickered while turining a sharp corner, but hasnt happened again since?

3. Factory alarm went off on its own after I parked it and set the alarm. It did this about 5 times in a row, but never again after that day.

4. Is there anyway to turn off the autolock that locks the doors after I hit 10mph. The weird thing is it was off when I bought the truck, but now for some odd reason it locks everytime at 10-12 mph?

It seems to me that maybe there is a short somewhere with the factory alarm? Also can I completely get rid of the factory system and wire a aftermarket viper alarm to the locks and everything instead of trying to find the problem?

Thank You. Any help is greatly appreciated and my wife says I spend to much time working on the truck and that she is going to drive it into a tree so I can spend more time with her.

yes the locks will attempt to cycle(lock or unlock) even if the door/gate is already locked/unlocked when you hit the lock/unlock button on the remote or on the front doors

these almost sound to me like a problem with the CTM, needs to be done by a dealer so that it can be programmed to your VIN and remotes for the keyless entry

yes you can turn that off if you like, here is how (it should be in your owners manual rather early on)
Automatic door locks If this feature is selected your door locks will lock automatically if the speed is above 15 mph. This option is shipped activated and can be turned on and off by using the following procedure:

1. Close all of the doors.

2. Place the key in the ignition and cycle the key from the OFF position to the ON position for a total of four times ending in the ON position, do not start the engine.

3. Press the drivers side power door lock switch to lock the doors within 30 seconds.

4. You will hear a single chime when the programming is completed.

5. To activate the feature again, repeat the above steps.
this should take care of the auto locking if you get it right, make take some doing to get the key cycles sequenced in the correct ordeR

It seems to me that maybe there is a short somewhere with the factory alarm? Also can I completely get rid of the factory system and wire a aftermarket viper alarm to the locks and everything instead of trying to find the problem?

i recommend against aftermarket alarms since they tend to cause more problems than they help, however in your case i think the issue is the CTM in the drivers side kick panel which controls all the electronics in the truck, including headlights, dome lights, ect ect unfortunately its a rather expensive part.

Thanks for the input, I was kind of leaning towards the CTM myself which is $300 new from dealership for the high end and they said they would program for free if I bought it.

Anyways I should have been more specific on the Hatch locking problems. The problem is that it repeatedly locks over and over making a click, click, click noise like it is locking until I press the unlock button again, It will do this forever until I hit the unlock button, but this also seems to be CTM related. Please let me know what you think

so when you hit the lock button once and let go, the gate keeps locking until you hit the unlock button??? that sounds like either a short in the wires or again back to the CTM considering the other issues you have i would point at the CTM as the culprit

Yes that is the problem. I read somewhere that water can get in the lock cylinder and cause this, but Im going to replace the ctm first. I cant afford to do that until February though cause Im going to park it for the winter to do some suspension work. Anyways I hope that is what the problem is. Another problem I have is the error P0443 (Bad Purge Circuit) and my battery drains after two days so it wont start. Anyways I pulled the purge fuse and it starts everytime like it should. Does anyone know how to fix the circuit. There was a recall on that problem I think 080807? anyways dealership said that recall was closed. Is there anyway to get them to honor that recall? If not does anyone know how I should fix that problem. There is nothing worse than a vehicle that wont start. Im just leaving the fuse out for now, but that causes the engine to idle and run a little rough.

Default Lock problems, etc.

We've been experiencing problems with our door locks for a few months. It started out where the alarm would go off when trying to unlock the doors with the fob; didn't happen all the time, just intermittent. Now it's progressed to where the fob to lock or unlock only works part of the time and the lock buttons on the inside don't work either when you can't use the fob. Key has to be in the "on" position to lock/unlock the doors when the fob won't work. We've been told it's the CTM; we're waiting to do this until we've saved up a bit more money; been sinking a lot in the D these days. I hate to go to the stealership, but it's the only place you can get a new CTM and have it programmed for your vehicle.
