Does tranny warm up in park?
1999 Durango 5.9, Does the tranny warm up in park?
The windows are frosty in the mornings so I let the D defrost before driving. I heard it is best to let your vehicle warm up in neutral because then you are allowing the torque converter to splash oil around and warm up the tranny oil as well as the engine oil. Instead of keeping it in park and just warming your motor oil while your tranny oil stays cold until you start driving.
From what I read, some vehicles allow the tranny oil to warm in park, others don't. I am, wondering if the D allows the tranny to warm in park, or if it is best for the truck to warm up in netural.
Thanks!

I have been told both ways on these. Mechanically the pump should turn either way.
We need to get master tech in here and get this hammered out!

i have heard both, but on the D(and other chrysler transmissions) it seems that the pump doesnt run in park, hence why you have to check the trans fluid level in nuetral.
another fun fact, letting the engine warm up more than a minute or so (once you have oil pressure it doesnt really matter anymore) is not so good for it in the long run, the best way to warm the engine up is GENTLE driving for a couple of miles, yes, YOU will be cold doing this but it will save you gas in the long run(if you are warming the truck up for you then go ahead, just dont do it thinking you are doing the truck any favors, we dont have carbs anymore and therefore they run and drive just fine in the cold)
