Overdrive
I have a used 2000 Durango. What started as a little noise from under the hood has gotten really loud over the last month when i get up to about 40 mph. I have always left my overdrive on because it's automatically on when i crank it. Yesterday i was trying to listen to where the noise was coming from cause i thought it was a wheel bearing. When i turned my overdrive off. the noise stopped. So what now. It drove fine today with the o/d off. But seems like it's not shifting right. Where do we start without going to the shop???
Please help.
Please help.

first, this belongs in the first generation section where people will actually see it, there are no other threads here bc no-one bothers looking here (except for me) so ill put this in the first gen section for you.
sounds like you have an OD unit going out, or a clutch pack going, you could start with a fluid/filter change and band adjustment (im assuming you have the 5.2 or 5.9 engine in the truck, if you have the 4.7 there is not too much you can do yourself as far as adjustments).
you best bet for help on this (at least on these boards) is user Master Tech try sending him a PM and he will be able to help you

If you have a 2000 then you should have a 5.9L not a 5.2L.
If this is correct you should have a 46RE transmission. This trans needs to have the pan dropped, fluid and filters changed, adjusted, and filled with ATF+4 fluid ONLY at around 30k intervals. I would suggest that you drop the pan and see if you have anything broken in the pan.

you are probably correct saying 5.2 the 2000 model year was a transition year, they offered all 3 of the engines, the 5.9 was in the R/T and SLT+ models, the 5.2 was in the 2wd modes as the base engine, and the 4.7 was in 4x4s as the base engine, sounds like you have the 5.2 and that should be the 44re trans iirc and what i said above applies to it
