You weld the shell of a cat around the pipe. The cars this was done on still had mufflers but where not stock usually long tube headers custom y-pipes on fourth gen f-bodies. A couple of them even had a second y-pipe with cats they put in just for inspection but believe me just an empty shell welded around the pipe can and has passed.

Yeah I actually don't doubt that would pass. When it's spelled out like that kind of hard to imagine someone figuring that out. Yeah they don't use sniffers unless it's older than 1986. Great to know where my $10 is going when I pay every year for an inspection.

im glad we dont have to pay anything on top of registration for state inspection, but its still bs some of the laws. although this year they passed a law that reduces the amount of stuff they check (they only gave up on the important stuff) now they just plug into the OBDII port and check the gas cap, if it checks out you pass. this leaves brakes, suspension, visual inspection, and a check for bad lights out (mostly stuff that should be the owners responsibility anyway, but which alot of idiots neglect for some reason)

You may work every day, but I doubt it's "just like the rest of you". I've seen lots of 19 and 20 year olds come to work where I'm at. Not a single one of them lasts more than two weeks. The generation coming into the workforce right now are pretty much spoiled little brats that have never learned even the beginning of a work ethic.

Umm.... That's pretty much the dictionary definition of "Annoying Little Redneck Punk". Hate to be the one to break it to you.

I worked in IT for 20 years. Started out in support, did some programming, and spent the last 13 years as a Network Engineer for a small telecom company.

Unfortunately, when the economy tanked, it took out the company I worked for, so I was out of work for almost a year while I looked for another IT job. Unfortunately, nobody is hiring for positions at my level, and I'm considered "overqualified" for the positions they are hiring for. In one year I've managed to get one interview, and they didn't even make me an offer because they assumed I wouldn't work for the $30 an hour they had budgeted for the position. Truth is, I would have taken well below that had they just talked to me about the issue.

So, I'm working at a job I swore to myself I would never, ever do again. I'm back at a packing house. Shifts are between 9 and 11 hours a night, 6 days a week, soaked head to toe in hog blood the whole time, and it seems like every morning I wake up with a new body part that doesn't want to bend the right way anymore. Plus, the shift I have to work since I don't have seniority means I only see my wife and kids on Sunday's. All of this for well less than 1/4 what I used to make. Honestly, if I was single, I would almost rather just give up and be homeless than do this job. But when you have a family counting on you, you just gotta man up and do whatever it takes to take care of them, right?

I will say this much. It makes me want to punch somebody square in the face whenever I see stories in the paper or on the news about how the economy is improving. I see no evidence of that around where I live, in fact it seems to still be going downhill.

You did what you had to do to support your family, that's what a man does. You are the type of person this country needs to build itself back up. I hope you get your dream job soon but you are doing right by your family, that's what counts.

I closed this thread because the OP asked for and got the advice he was looking for. It seems he will be doing what he wants to do so there is no more discussion on this subject.
