Dual air intake
I had a 90 camaro that I put a 350 Ram Jet engine in and it had the filter right on top of the engine. This was alright, although I routed the dual filter intake like you were looking at (it had about 6 inches between grill and radiator) and put that there and I noticed a HUGE difference. Just because thats how performance cars are built like that doesn't mean it can be made even better by re routing it from on top of the engine.
also keep in mind alot of muscle cars also have hood scoops of some sort to push cold air in at that point, sucking hot air is detrimental to performance over getting cold air and the dual intakes done flow any more air than a single does in these cases bc even the single one is going to flow more air the tb could possible take in at once (in stock setup of course)
I agree looks sweet but at the same time it also looks like it would be pulling engine heat rather than outside air. Could work if you modify it to one like a K&N but I don't think it is possible to even do that.
It would kind of defeat the purpose of spending $250 on a K&N cold air intake kit if you're going to slap a double filter on it. Keep in mine K&N has they're product custom made for every vehicle and model. You're not just buying a DIY universal fit when you buy a K&N CAI.
The specific CAI kit from them for the 5.9 I know is specifically tuned for the right spot in the engine bay to which it would take in the coolest part of the air, while still allowing a good spot for if you stepped up to a Ram Air hood in the future.

Well i was told as far as it goes most air intakes (K&N vs AEM vs Airraid vs spectre vs volant vs etc) do about the same. do throttle body spacers help much at all? if i bought one would it change the size of the rubber couple needed that holds the intake tube to the stock throttle body? Or would it just be better to go out find something to separate the cone filter from the engine (heat shield) and call it good?
also i know most people use Rubbermaid plastic garages. if this touched one of the small metal pipes running through the engine would it melt? i know those get pretty hot.

Most intakes do about the same if they're setup properly. The way you have yours now theres no heat shield keeping the heat from the engine out. I would really recommend doing a rubbermade bin, it seems kind of ghetto rigged and I would think it would melt, not 100% sure just giving my .02.
Throttle body spacers are said to work... However I have read many statements claiming they don't do a damn thing. I would assume it would use the same coupler holding the intake into the throttle body.
As far as your spectre intake goes, I would put a heat shield or some sort around the engine sides of your filter. I am going to refer you to IndyDurango's post he made about his truck, check out what he did as a heat shield. Essecientally what he did (I'm assuming what it looks like Indy) is use a diamond plate metal around it. I would also possibly PM him and see what he thought about it and research further into it if you choose.

throttle body spacers do absolutely nothing for a fuel injected engine, on a carbed engine they give more time for the air and fuel to mix, but on these engines they are just an expensive paper weight.
Thanks shrp, so I'll pass on the throttle body unless i come across a small fortune and decide i want a new paper weight.
But I'll look into the diamond plate and the Rubbermaid bin and see what i can do with both.
i feel the Rubbermaid would be easier to shape and cut. unless i go diamond plate and shield off that whole side like Indy did?
