4.7 vs 4.7HO
Does anyone know the difference between the 03 4.7 and the later model 06 and 07 4.7HO's? Can they be swapped into an 03 model? Maybe just use my old sensors and injectors and computer etc. Has anybody tried this before. Also I am told that a 4wd and 2wd have different engine blocks. Is it possible to put a 2wd engine into my 4wd and everything still be good.

the engine blocks should be the same btwn 4wd and 2wd, the transmission may be a little bit different in the output shaft but thats still not the engine. i am sure that the HO 4.7s can be swapped in, however i would imagine that you need the PCM from the original truck that the H.O. was in and potentially a wire harness from it too. IMO if you are going to go through all that trouble, go big, go really big (im gonna leave it at that and let your imagination go wild)

I disagree. I think swapping in the HO version of the 4.7 is the way to go. The blocks will be identical, they will swap and should maybe even swap without a computer change. Check the plugs on the donor vs. ours, you should be NGC, which is four plugs, JTEC computers have 3 plugs and I think ended mid 2002 on the Durango.
As for needing the computer, that is not needed, you can always get an SCT tuner and custom tune the new computer, that is, if you have problems.
The HO pistons in the engine alone are another good 30 HP. And your current trans should work too. I want to say that when they went to dual plugs things changed a little, but that swap hasn't been documented yet as far as I know.

You should get the new PCM from the donor truck to make this thing work properly.
