Looking to buy a 1st gen durango
My Subaru wagon (if you can call something without a third seat a wagon) did fine in the snow AWD does wonderful things.
If you want seven passenger seating it is either a mini van or an SUV. There are no full size wagons. The rise of the SUV and the demise of the wagon happened at the about the same time. I am not saying the durango is not more capable off road or even towing but it does fit the same bill for a lot of people.

AWD is a nice help in the snow, but it is NO MATCH for true 4wd, and most wagons dont have the ground clearance for the amount of snow we get where i live, i have gone around a number of STUCK SUBARU WAGONS bc the awd system in them is not as great as they want you to believe
I don't live in New Jersey so for what we get AWD makes it easier but is still usually not needed to get around. It does make it easier don't get me wrong I love the full time 4wd selection on my D in the snow. I have not found a need for the part time selection as of yet and hope not to ever as far as driving in bad weather is concerned.
P.S. I should have said this earlier to those whom I have debated with but there is no anger in my post. I do like my D and think there is knowledge here to be gained but I tend to question that which goes against what I have learned with other vehicles i have owned.

Biff85ta- i have only used 4wd on a very few occasions living in NJ, when we get snow its usually enough that you need the ground clearance to get through it, however i find that a little bit of patience and knowledge about driving in the snow is worth a hell of a lot more than ANY 4wd system is, the 4wd only makes it easier to GO, it does absolutely NOTHING to help you stop

Yeah, i have found a few that i really like... problem is that im waiting on a gov't check to be able to buy. Hope it comes soon so i can get my D. I have the lawyer on it now cause he surly wants his cut of the money.
