Default muffler

Has anyone just changed the muffler? Obviously someone has but what I mean is i have a couple old flowmasters frommy old ford truck and I was thinking about just cutting the old muffler off and welding in one flowmaster . Will it sound alot better or because its single exhaust still has converter will sound very little difference?

Yes it will sound a lot better. You will have to add extension pipe because the stock muffler is so large. I started with this in mine before upgrading to full cat back.

It will sound really good though.

I added a red thrush glasspack back in July (I think) and it sounds awesome!! It sounds like it has a much bigger motor than a 4.7L. I read a thread on here that someone said that Dodge puts a high flow cat on their trucks from the factory.

I'm sure the flowmaster will sound pretty good.

Yeah, many years ago I worked at a muffler shop and was driving my 95 f150. We tried all kinds of mufflers on it to get some sound and never had real good results. Finally when i killed the motor in it I rebiult it with a little more oomph. I broke the motor in on the way to the muffler shop that day and pulled the factory manifolds off and installed a set of headers given to me from a buddy then we true duelled the exhaust all the way to the back axle and out the side in front of the tire with 2 flowmaster mufflers. As the truck sits in the back yard with a leaky head gasket and about 180,000 I remembered those flowmaster mufflers still under it. I just needed to know if I was wasting my time putting one of them under the Durango or not. Especially since they are broke in real good now.

The cats after the early to mid 90's on pretty much everything are no longer enough of a restriction to worry about like almost zero HP lost.

Here is a link to youtube that has flowmasters on Durangos. They sound throaty and mean.http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...r+exhaust&aq=f
I hope this helps on your decision.

Yep, you don't have to touch the cats unless they're clogged or falling apart. Dodge did right by using high flow cats. Mufflers are personal choices. You can have them sound deep and mellow but growl when you give it gas or downright obnoxious like the teenager down the block trying to blow your windows off. Be a good neighbor and decide with them in mind as well.

Dans, I live in the center of a small backwoods, a town that doesn't even have it's own post office, where I will run my Ford with open headers, and the lady in the clerks office said she could hear it as if she was standing next to it. That is when I open up the throttle on my trips down the street. Thats down the street and behind my apt from the town hall. I guess I could be considered the town a**hole!!

a57, The glasspack on my D is a nice mellow tone with bark when I lay into it. I have to go up a hill that is about 1 mile long, and I drove up the hill with the gate open and it was louder than I thought but sounded sweet. I also noticed that it burped a little shifting from from 1 to 2 then 2 to 3, which was pretty cool to hear coming from an automatic trans. Then going down hill with the car trailer and a 92 chev 2500 HD on it, I down shifted and it almost had an engine brake sound to it. I know it not to good to down shift but there was alot of sand on the road and it was kind of slippery.
