Default 2000 durango problem

I am looking at buying a dodge durango because I love the one my brother has but the one I am looking at is having a problem. When you turn the key it doesn't make a noise at all like no clicking sound or even trying to turn over the engine. It has a 4.7 liter but I wanted to know could it be the starter or the ignition or could it be something else someone please help me asap

try to use jumper cables to start it, if not i would look for bad connections btwn the battery, PDC (black power box) and starter relay and starter, both live and ground wires

also check the starter relay, swap it with one of the same size (i believe the horn is the same size)

You need to more details from your brother about what engine/trans he is running. IMO so far the 4.7 is a attempt to modernize the traditional V8. asm far as I can gather, the other engines (5.2,5.7,5.9) all have the old schoo; 350sb type design, simple as hell to work on. The 4.7 is a little more tricky and from what my dodge tech buddy tells me they like to drop valve seats pretty often when slightly overheated. My $ is on that truck needing a rebuild.

more difficult to work on, maybe, but liking to drop valve seats, i have never heard of that happening however if the truck isnt turning over the first place to look is at the starter and the associated electronics, NOT at rebuilding the engine, thank you for playing . . .

Ok my brother has the 5.9 in his slt durango the 4.7 is in the durango sport that I am looking at buying, from what I was told just yesterday before it stopped starting they had replaced a sensor in the truck then after the sensor was replaced the truck just stopped working meaning no click or even any effort from the starter trying to turn the truck over. Before this happened he said that the engine and transmission ran strong so I am doubtful that it could even be a problem with the engine at all. Thank-you shrpshtr325 for the help I am going to go this weekend to look at and more than likely buy it. So if you have anymore advice it would be great thank-you.

I don't like the story the seller is telling you. I would be on guard and prepared to walk away. If shrps advice does not work you can try tapping the starter with a hammer just to rule it out. Whatever you do please do not make up your mind you are buying this truck before you get there and check it out. I would suggest checking it out and going to have lunch before you commit to buying it.

Agreed, at bare MINIMUM pull the valve covers and inspect. Take a 1/4 drive 10mm with a short extension.

Take it to a shop and pay the $100 bucks for a 128 point inspection BEFORE you buy it!

That would cost a $100 to tow it and another $100 to inspect. Now you're $200 deep in a car you are CONSIDERING and it will bee another $100 to tow to tow it back to the owners or your house. It should only take 20-30 minutes to remove the valve cover or even just get a compression tester from a parts store, most have one as a loan-a-tool, and pull plugs and verify compression.

All you need is 1 cylinder at 0 and his asking price takes a hard hit. Out of the 3 crap motors the 4.7 is probably the best of the worst....

But that's like the smartest person at a retard convention.
