Default fuel pump?

i have a 99 durango with 5.2 with 233K it has autolite iridium plugs msd 8.5 mm wires new cap rotor (brass).accel coil just replaced plenum it has k&n cai and it also has a hypertech. this truck runs grade amazing.....except at high rpm (4800-5000+) it will cut out and pop sometimes. it will do it in 1st and second gear. i hooked fuel press gauge up idling it would be around 47 i took it down the road and ran her to 5 grand and the press went to 46 possibly 45... could this be my problem? other than the high rpm problem it runs amazing never stalls or surges it idles perfect

i believe your rev limiter is set around 5000 RPMS, so thats what is happening, you shouldnt need to rev the engine that high anyway, these trucks make their power very low in the rpm range, id say 4k is about all that you need even for hard acceleration(under normal driving i dont get above 2.5k)

EDIT: sure seems like 5000 is the electronic rev limiter http://www.dakota-durango.com/forum/...09&postcount=2

i have a hypertech the revlimiter is not until pushing 6K i used to do it all the time. could it be the valves floating because of the 233K?

If the valves are floating I'd guess it's because of the 5000 rpms...

Having a hard time imagining why you'd need to rev her that high. As sharp said, these motors produce their power lower in the curve. If you're needing to rev it that high to get power, you've probably got much bigger issues to look for.

Also, while I don't have personal experience with this, I keep reading on this forum that these motors don't like the "fancy" spark plugs. They run best with the el-cheapo copper cores.

fuel pressure (as per the factory service manual) should be 49.2psi +/- 5 psi, basically 45-55 psi

A) run premium fuel

B) swap out those plugs. to hot and causing preignition. Some like stocker Champions. I would recommend for you the same except for ONE STEP cooler on the heat range.

C) only see those RPMs at WOT as you are cycling through the gears at max acceleration. NEVER during other driving. Your D should live 95%+ of it's driving life in the 1000-3500 RMP range.

Betting what you paid for my post that this will fix 99.9% of your defined issues above. You don't have a fuel pressure issue.

One step cooler than stock.

I run Autolites per most other performance setup 5.9s however here most like the stockers. JUST MAKE SURE to get ONE step cooler than stock for your setup.
