I have verified speed with Tom Tom and also I know without doubt that from my driveway to where I park at work is exactly 27.3 miles. I also know that my vette gets 27 mpg driving to work and it burns half the gas each week. I am thinkinking at this point it has to be something with the evap system.

I have a 2000 durango with 5.9l and my mods are K&N CAI, 3in Cat-back exhaust, superchips programmer set to 87octane power, and a throttle body spacer(i had it on before i heard it was pointless). My computer says im only getting about 13.5 highway but when i go and calcutale it out (how many miles i go/ how much gas i put in) i get about 19highway. I know my speedometer is correct because i set the tire size with the programmer.

its a known fact that the overhead console is far from accurate at estimating mpgs.

however if you have the 5.9 im going to have to call you on getting 19mpg unless you are coasting downhill w/ a headwind(or have been using the economly setting on your programmer, however you already said that was not the case)

Yeah I have the 5.9 and even on Economy mode on my programmer I am getting around 17 mpg. Without it I get around 14 or 15 on average.

Before my 2004 was disposed of I always did my mileage checks with speedo, not console. Also courtesy of GPS and mileage markers it was traveling 1.2 miles for every mile recorded. Never had a 5.9 only 5.2 and 3.9 I highway drive 5.2 at 2000 rpm and get 20. ( did not see 20 until I installed the CAI). I live 9.5 miles round trip from gas station and have gotten as low as 9 and as high as 13.9 driving over hill and vale. I climb 4 miles of mountain to get home, lol so I coast 3 miles on the way back. (Climb a mile going back then all downhill). Her 89 3.9 averages 20. Both are 4x4. If he is driving very conservatively and staying in his best power to consumption RPM. I can believe 19 highway.

When you get to the next one look at your mileage and check it to your findings. The further (mileage) you can go the better, for instance, if you travel 30 miles on the freeway then great, watch the highway markers and again refer to your mileage on your odometer.

Next lets start documenting the actual gallons used and divide by actual mileage.

Not calling anyone out on this, but lets get the cold hard facts and not what the overhead display states or a incorrect odometer states.
Ok Hydra, I finally got a chance to take my D on a good highway trip. I brought a GPS with me and I was able to check to see how much the speedometer is off. At 65 on the speedo, the gps said 67.

And at the pump, I topped off and did my math and got 15.7mpgs. I did all hwy driving on that tank of gas. I don't have the luxurious overhead decoration in my D, just courtsey lights.

15.8 is what I used to get on my 5.9L......Doesn't sound bad. Have you installed the home brew CAI?

Hi guys! I just bought a 99 durango with a 5.9, it has 190k on it now and its getting 12.5 mpg. I noticed behind the glove box it.says that the gears are 3.55 and its running 31x10.50/15s at 70 Its showing 1900 rpms. I know the tires aren't helping me but they where on there when I bought it (uniroyal liberators)
I was wondering if any body has added a electric fan? That's got to help mpgs just by eliminating all the parasitic drag and weight from the fan and fan clutch..

what programmers are you guys using?

Ever tried the newer style spark plugs like the e3 style ones?

Thanks
Johnny
