or the dipstick in it is too long....if so what part number do i need to order one from the dealer?
i hope its not the dipstick, if so then im runnin her way too low on fluid!!...

you did whats called a partial change, which only changes the fluid in the transmission pan, in that case you get less fluid out and need to put less in, if you had purged all the lines you would have needed the full 14 quarts, your dipstick is fine, your truck is fine, dont worry about it as long as the fluid gets changed regularly this doesnt matter
According to the "capacities" section in my Haynes manual:
Automatic transmission:
Drain and refill.........................4.0 qts
Dry fill....................................9.0 to 11 qts (depending on model and options)
So, yeah, 14 qts was a bit more than you probably needed to buy. Still, tranny fluid is one of those things that is nice to have on hand.
Looking at those numbers, you'll also notice that when you pulled the pan to change filters, you replaced a good deal less than half of the total tranny fluid in the system. If the fluid was in bad shape, you may want to pull the pan and top off with fresh fluid a few more times just to get a higher concentration of new, fresh fluid in there.
(NOTE: My manual is for 98 and 99 Durangos, so the information is probably slightly off for your 2002, but should be in the ballpark, and the fact that pulling the pan only changes "some" of the fluid applies to all automatic transmissions.)
If you want to change ALL of the fluid, there is a link in the sticky FAQ post to instructions for doing a "purge" (as opposed the the "flush" that most shops will try to sell you). It involves disconnecting a tranny cooler line, running the engine, and allowing the transmission pump to slowly pump out the old fluid while you continuously pour in new fluid to keep it from running dry. This method will require enough fluid to cover the full capacity of your tranny, and if it were me I'd throw in and extra quart or three just for good measure (it's a big enough job that you might as well do it right). The only other way of really changing all of the fluid that I know of would involve removing the tranny and torque converter from the vehicle.

ok well that looks a lil time consuming, but ill definatly do that this summer on a day off....like i said in erlyer posts that i bought this truck because of my late daughter, and im gonna do what ever i have too to keep it in as pristene condition as i can...it originaly came out of georgia and ive went over it with a fine tooth comb and for a 9 or 10 year old truck...(made year before model year)...it has no rust at all....not even starting...and i want to keep it that way as well...but this summer ill take the lines loose from the radiator and such and flush it out really good with fluid before i reinstal the pan and new filters...what elce should i look into replacing on it like any kindof valves or anything like that that requires it from time to time?...and yes the dipstick is about half an inch too long....it springs back out about half an inch and i noticed when the pan was off that its hittin the bottom of the pan thats why its bouncin back 1/2 inch...
