Thanks for the fast response everyone. It was the belt I replaced it and it went any. I have another question though. I just bought this truck it has the factory radio in it and the infinity system. The guy said he bought it from a friend and he had a custom system in it and took it out when he sold it but didn't put the amp back in so now the sound doesn't work. Is there any way around this or do I need the amp. Thanks
Pull the radio out and see if there is a black wire that is not connected. Most people will cut the end off of it and it is a ground fro the factory amp. Put a female blade connector on it and connect it to the tabs on the back of the radio.
Wouldn't the oil corrode the rubber? I've used brake fluid before because that didn't break down the rubber compound.
WD-40 is not an oil, it is more of a cleaner than anything. It also acts like a water dispersant. That's why you could take off a distributor cap that has water in it and spray out the moister with WD-40 and wipe with a rag and place it back on without an issue (old back yard trick). WD-40 will evaporate as well and leave a useless chalk.
Just don't rule out the tensioner if the WD-40 doesn't work. When I had my water pump done the tensioner was frozen up bad enough that the mechanic had to cut the belt to get it off, even after trying to lubricate it and force it to move.
Also, even if the tensioner is good, those belts get a bit of a "glaze" on them over time and can start slipping. Once they get that glaze on them, they're slippery, especially when cold.
