Default Question

I have a 99 D and i took it to the car wash and used the engine and tire cleaner and ever since then i have a squeel. I replaced the idler pulley thinking it was dry and didnt fix it so I replaced the tensioner pulley and its still there. I think it might be the A\C clutch. Is that normal? How do you replace it? Thanks...

Get a stethoscope and isolate the area where the squeak is coming from and that should give you the answer. Typically the A/C clutch won't squeak when its going out, as much to give resistance on the belt an you'll feel it.

Any help. This happens to me when I wash out the engine. I pretty much wet down the whole compartment. I haven't figured out what squeals but after 20 miles of good driving it goes away. I thought at first it was my alternator so I took it down to get tested and it was still working like a champ. Well there was a little bit of water that got stuck in it.. After blowing it out with air it stopped. And this was after driving it awhile. So might just have water in places where it won't come out. Try blowing everything out with a good compressor.

Ummmm, don't wash your engine dude! I've never heard of anyone actually washing their engine, if you want it pretty looking, use some brake cleaner on the metal and just hand wash it with a dry rag.

That squeal is most likely from a belt slipping because you just hosed it down and drove it before its dry. Also, keep in mind that you have A LOT of electronics under the hood that are exposed and you hosing it down, is just asking for problems.

Well usually I just blow it out. But with the recent coolant problems.. I have had to hose down the whole inside due to coolant EVERYWHERE a few times a week.

Hosing it down won't help, use a degreaser spray or equivalent.

Thanks for the fast response everyone. It was the belt I replaced it and it went any. I have another question though. I just bought this truck it has the factory radio in it and the infinity system. The guy said he bought it from a friend and he had a custom system in it and took it out when he sold it but didn't put the amp back in so now the sound doesn't work. Is there any way around this or do I need the amp. Thanks

I have a squeal when it is cold outside. (It goes away when the engine warms up) I have thought that this was the A/C clutch but who knows.
